I'm not sure I like this new format of having the new dancers dance with the old....scratch that - I hate it. Part of the fun of a new season of SYTYCD is watching all the newbies dance and falling in love with someone you just didn't expect to like, based on some unexpected and wonderful routine. Even during the first episode last year, I could tell who was starting to stand out for me. But with so many people on stage, half of whom we are not supposed to consider for voting, it really really muddies the waters.... Last night I couldn't tell who was dancing because of the way it was being filmed. I agree. Since last night was nonvoting you figure that the new dancers could have least gotten their own showcase. That being said I did like all the numbers except the Broadway. I loved him too! I much would have preferred him to Dominic who is also pretty tiny and already annoying the crap out of me with his hammy look at me act.

I don't mind the all-stars, but I wish they'd all dance in pairs instead of groups - it's way too hard to tell who's who. I'm hoping this group-dance thing was just for the initial "showing off the top 11" episode.
Also: I can't stand Dominic & his schtick. He makes me want to slap that goofy look off his stupid face.
I like how they had the choreographers say a few words after each dance. I hope that continues despite the fact that it will most likely be lavish praise.

I liked Gev a lot. I've always thought Dom was creepy and that hasn't changed. I groaned when I heard he was going to be an All-Star.
I'm not a fan of Billy Bell. Last year, I was Team Jacob. This year it's Team Alex and Kent. For the girls, only Lauren and Melinda stand out and I find Melinda insufferable.

I was disappointed in Lauren last night. She was doing the cheerleader "smile at the crowd the whole time" thing; I'm surprised the judges didn't expressly refer to it that way.
I liked Robert, although his goofball nature could grate as the season progresses, and I was really happy to see Kent dance the cha cha so well.
When they had Ashley do the "what doesn't the audience know about you", I thought "where do you begin?" I suspect the poor girl will be out tonight since she was barely seen in the audition rounds.

Word to all of this. Also? Alex Wong made me cry, and that was before they cut to the judges' standing O/tears. I feel like he might be unstoppable, save a "no personality/no growth" bashing from the judges, a la Season 3 Danny. Yeah, I think either Ashley, Alexie, or Adechike are going home tonight, even though Lauren's performance was the most distracting and Melinda's performance was a hot mess. Lastly, how funny was that footage of Adam Shankman from old school Star Search? ;D

Why did they think Latin Ballroom chick was so good? She was clearly stiff and clumsy in that number with Mark. And I didn't see dancing for her life in the solo and more than the other two girls.
I hate thinking the judges have pre-judged who they want to stay, but it seems clear to me that they definitely have a plan to weed who they want out early by giving them harsh criticism to lower the votes.

Why do they keep letting Tyce ruin two numbers a week? I wish they would get some different Broadway choreographers; he's just brutal.

[/Monica] That "Fosse" jazz was a hot mess, and not at all helped by the juxtaposition of the song "Summertime" with navy blue spandex bodysuits. I'm sad that another girl bit the dust, but I really think that Melinda's going next, unless Adechike falls in the bottom 3 with her next week.

I don't mind Tyce's contemporary or jazz stuff, but his Broadway is crap. Where's Joey Dowling or someone new? I'm not surprised about Christina & Melinda being in the bottom, but I was surprised about Robert. I know the show is about the favorite, rather than best, dancer, but I've been wildly unimpressed by Billy Bell and would have preferred him in the bottom. Also, Jose's poor Bollywood skills were emphasized by Kathryn doing so well at it. It's still early in the season, but the way it's going now, I hope they go back to 20 dancers, no "all-stars" next year.

Can someone explain the goofy dance they did at the end of last night's episode. They said it was a dedication to Alex? Everyone was doing it, even the judges and the choreographers in the audience.
