So the two episode season premier was on last night, and I didn't enjoy them as much as I usually do. I disliked Gloria yelling the whole time, I didn't like Mitchell and Luke blowing up the birdhouse, and I don't like new Lily, who talks and is involved in the plot. We'll see how the season shapes up, but last night was disappointing.

I really like new Lily, I've never liked the old quiet doll-like Lily. A passive baby is fine, but Lily is 3 - way too old to just sit there and not respond to anything. I think the new actress looks like old Lily and she did a good job of being a kid, without being a wisecracker.
Gloria is shrieky enough without giving her a plotline to be even louder and shriekier. Gawd.

I'll get used to the new Lily, but I did love the old one... such a cute sweetie.

Phil continues to make me love him more every episode. Gloria is annoying. She is so funny without trying so why are they trying so hard? This show is TOO good. Not crazy about the first two episodes, but I have high hopes that the writers will hit their stride. Please!

Funny, I'm starting to get irritated by Phil. He tries so hard to be the kids' friend that the parental heavy-lifting is shifted to Claire. In the last episode where he stage whispers to the kids that he did indeed push his wife into the display of cans after denying it up and down to her face was pretty shitty. Not that I'm a Claire fan, but Phil is beginning to grate on me.
I didn't think I'd like the new Lily, but she's pretty cute.

I agree; I thought Phil was a jerk about the supermarket incident. He's ogling another woman with his wife right there, and causes her to fall. Then he denies it and tries to humiliate Claire by turning it into a "yeah, yeah, you're always right", even enlisting the kids and making faces and stuff behind her back. Talk about undermining his wife's authority with the kids. Plus - she WAS right. Ugh.

Finally finished catching up on season 2 and am now enjoying the new season. So far I'm loving Gloria. Yeah, she's a bit more over the top now, but she's funny and I love her curves. I can't imagine it being any kind of fun being married to someone like Claire. I really don't like how her character is written as some sort of type A spaz, and not even a good one. Can't she just be normal? Love Phil, love the kids (I hope Dylan comes back).
I am a bit disenchanted with how Mitchell and Cam's relationship is being played out. I get that there has to be some sort of conflicting story line, but they come off as always being a bit irritated with each other. Their relationship is still young so I want to see joy in it.
Now on to Jay and Gloria. I like them as characters, but I just don't see any chemistry as a couple. Sophia is gorgeous, and Ed (even though he's known as an awesomely nice guy) is REALLY showing his age with the grey hair and the balding, original teeth (his are particularly ugly), and weight gain. I'm sure they're great friends off-camera, but as characters they're missing something.
And will someone get the kid who plays Manny to a gym? I don't care how cute or charming his lines are written, his weight is becoming a distraction. He's too young to be looking like that.
Yes, I've thought about this way too much!
ETA: Season 3 is obviously featuring an intelligent Luke. I miss the dumb one.

I like this show from time to time, but mostly it just makes me nervous. It's basically about a family of high-strung control freaks and their nervous attempts to appear/be perfect. I grew up in the suburbs and hated every moment of it. This show reminds me why. Hah.

This show is really losing it in season 3. Last night's ep wasn't funny at all. It was the one where Mitchell and Cam bicker, Gloria shrieks, Claire tries to something good but is thwarted by her asshole family, and Luke says something pithy. Yes, that episode.

Yeah, I really didn't like last night's episode as much as I normally do (though the bit with the lipstick in the car was funny). I like that Phil figured out that he was being a dick, and tried to fix it.
