Can we change the title of this thread to "The Royal Jewels"? Please?

The only reason jewels at the level get stolen is for the bragging rights. My bet is they're in a VERY private vault somewhere.

Stumbled across this post, and got lost in all the pretty.

ONTD's resident royalist made an excellent post about only a small portion of Liz's jewels. Some real stunners in that vault. And some really interesting history factoids. I had no idea that Margaret's kids had to sell her tiara. Damn, that's horrible. It also brought up some feelings of resentment and anger--hello colonization! I really wonder what's going to happen to all that hardware. It can't sit around collecting dust forever. They should sell or at least display some of it. No one should be hoarding that much wealth.

I want those amethysts. Liz clearly doesn't appreciate them!

I love stuff like that with the jewels and the history. And I agree with the poster that the ruby tiara is totally fug. As is the one lent to Sophie (Sophie should be pissed).
And why do these people hate opals so much? Seems they are always removing them or just tossing them in a drawer somewhere (as in the case of the giant opal QEII got from Australia). I love opals!

Aren't opals supposed to be unlucky unless it's your birthstone? He had good taste. That tiara is so pretty. Crikey! Most people just ask for a toaster!

I love the aquamarine!
You have to wonder just how much stuff Liz has hidden in her vaults!

Opals do have a lot of superstitions relating to bad luck surrounding them. They’re my mom’s birthstone so she has a few small ones that she wears fairly frequently and they’re lovely. I’m sure she’d be happy to take the Australian opals off Liz’s hands.

That post is really interesting, but I am struck by how other than the tiaras everything just looks so dated to my eye. Also reading about countries giving the crown gifts after the year 1900 or so is extremely cringe-inducing, it seems such an old-fashioned imperialistic custom.
