I'm watching this movie on DVD and not really enjoying it. But Julia wears some good sweaters. Didn't the pizza make you hungry? I watched it and just enjoyed the clothing Julia and her Swedish friend wore along with the scenery.

Got this from RedBox last night. Boring. Boring. Boring. I tried to watch but after about 30 minutes lost interest and started doing other things. I will say that it makes very non-offensive background noise for cleaning house.

It IS boring, isn't it? I watched it last night cuz I'm still a little sick and couldn't sleep. I wanted to see locations and food.
Some of her clothes I liked but why does she dress so frumpy?

How is this 2 hours and twenty minutes long? I'm an hour in and and while I am totally in the mood for Mindlessly Entertaining Italian Travel Porn (I watched The Tourist last night and, despite all the bad reviews, really liked it, but OMG, Venice looked GORGEOUS), but the navel-gazing voiceover and Julia's annoyingness are getting to me. I totally wanted to slap the crap out her in the "OMG, watch us struggle to try on a size two pair of jeans!" montage.
For hotter sex with a younger man (Franco is dull in this), better food porn (featuring the most amazing prawn-eating scene OF ALL TIME!), and, more importantly, an actual bad-ass actress being awesome and wearing amazing outfits, I recommend watching Tilda in the deliriously melodramatic I Am Love as an alternative.
I think the costumers dressed Ghoulia on the frumpy/baggy side to conceal how gaunt and hard-looking she is now. Seriously, her head looks like one of those Grey Aliens.

Yes! Yes! I love that movie. The cinematography just oozes sensuality. I only made it through 10-15 minutes of Eat, Pray, Love. Terribly dull.

Oh my god, I was SO HAPPY that Julia put on a "I'm taking a vow of silence" button in the ashram, but, of course, the movie had her take it off literally 30 seconds later due to some plot contrivance. I was looking forward to Ghoulia finally SHUTTING THE HELL UP for once.

Hm. I'm still debating over whether to watch this or not. I stopped reading the book after the second part, just couldn't take it anymore. I don't mind Julia all that much and the film looks pretty so I might rent this.

It is pretty but she is such a Mary Sue. Rather than actually having a cultural experience, people befriend her and men fall in love with her wherever she goes because she is totally wonderful. It's also deeply angering the feminist in me and there's some slightly-offensive cultural stuff (on-screen Liz Gilbert is a colonalist famewhore, y'all!), but it is so pretty that I can't stop watching. Granted, I'm glad I didn't pay full price to see it and I'm only half-watching while checking emails/Facebook, but there are worse things to Instant Stream while folding laundry/sick/hungover. The cinematographer has a truly legendary body-of-work. Javier is the best part of the film, but you have to watch an hour & forty minutes to get to him.
