I think it’s funny she sounded like Michelle, bc I think Mira Sorvino could play her.

Tom and Lorenzo suggested Rooney Mara and I was gobsmacked! TLo, I love you, but that is horrible casting! Rooney Mara is too tiny and angular, though I think she could play a liar and fraud really well. Holmes is doughy faced. Round cheeks, big round eyes, plump lips. It makes her look innocent and nonthreatening.
The other thing TLo pointed out, which I do not trust JLaw and Adam McKay to pull off, is the very subtle way Holmes used her femininity and youth to entice these white old men to invest in the company. She never presented herself as sexual, she wore the most unsexy outfits, flat loafers, baggy pants, turtlenecks, minimal makeup, and her hair, my god, her hair! But there was something alluring in this that made these guys believe in her without even seeing any solid facts about Edison. That's something that would be interesting to explore in a film, but again, we've got McKay directing an actress well known for being a sexy knockout. I don't know if they'd take the story in that direction. I expect the turtlenecks and the pants to be MUCH tighter for this movie.

After seeing The Favourite I'd love to see what Emma Stone could do with the role, albeit she's not as close of a physical match as some of the other actresses suggested.

I watched the first half of the Theranos doc on You Tube until the wee hours, then fell asleep. The next morning it was gone. Dommage. I'll find it again, I'm certain. I was more distracted by her puffy face than her fake deep voice, or non blinking. I was wondering if it was caused by coke or an ED. Anyhoodle. I was once again on YT, and came across a video proclaiming to have the top 10 docs ever. Everything is subjective of course, but I'd never heard of more than half of them. I did like that they did break them up by theme, and included some of the most seminal entries in that category. For those curious, by not likely to click the link: 10 - Shoah 9 - Harlan County, USA 8 - Grey Gardens 7 - The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On 6 - Hoop Dreams 5 - Stop Making Sense 4 - Close-Up 3 - Baraka 2 - Sans Soleil 1 - As I Was Moving Ahead, Occasionally I Saw Brief Glimpses of Beauty I've only seen Hoop Dreams (once a long time ago), and heard of Grey Gardens and Shoah. I might have heard of Harlan County, but I'm not sure. Baraka and it's sorta sequel Samsara are really the only 2 I feel the need to see.

I was completely obsessed with Theranos this past week. I watched the documentary and made it through the podcast. Preet Bharara interviewed John Carryrou on his podcast months back, so that's how I already knew the bones of the story, but I couldn't get enough and am sad I'm done. I don't know why this fascinated me so much. I think it may be that Elizabeth genuinely seemed interested in bringing about change that would positively impact humanity, and for most fraudsters, it's all a story. Did she really get so caught up in her own mythology that she believed it? I dunno.
I like to listen to Hysteria podcast (it's one of the Crooked Media family of podcasts)--it's all women who are really funny and smart and, while they deal with politics, the main section is a discussion of a topic that's relevant to women. This week it was about confidence, and the way our culture reinforces it in boys and undermines it in girls. They brought up Theranos briefly and I think that's one reason why it's so fascinating--where did Elizabeth Holmes get all this confidence that allowed her to perpetrate a fraud of that magnitude? In a weird way I admire her confidence, although like so many others, I hate it that the first example of a super successful female tech inventor/entrepreneur turns out to be a complete fraud. I wonder how much she'll be used as an examples of, "Women don't really have what it takes to be X, just look at Elizabeth Holmes!"
Also, that guy Sunny was a total douchebag.

Ugh. Hulu's the one I don't have. I want to do a free trial to watch Shrill, so I need to save up to use it when I have time to fit this in, too.
