Icy, I think that it's a very western tale, but still very Indian...if that makes sense. I think westerners can relate more because so many of us have some sort of 'future rock star' stories in our pasts, imo. There's music and songs but no dance/item numbers. I don't think it's pitched toward westerners but it felt like a western story with Hindi dubbing, for me.

I thought the music in the trailer for Rock On was good, but I've missed the movie since it came and went quickly in my town. Aside from Singh is King nothing has showed for more than a week this year.
But looking forward to December when "Chandni Chowk to China" comes to town. The trailer looked great! Lots of action etc. in the manner of a Jackie Chan movie.

Drona is coming out this week isn't it? Oct. 2 I thought. I thought the trailer for this looked pretty interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I thought the Drona soundtrack was terribly dull, so my interest in the film has waned. I might want to see Abhishek in Dostana though - I'd be happy if they managed to treat the "pretending to be gay" thing more sensibly/entertainingly than similar Hollywood films. At the very least, Abhishek and John Abraham are going to be prettier than Chuck and Larry.

I heard about SRK presenting at the Golden Globes, that is really cool! Has anyone seen Rab Ne Bani De Jodi? I was a bit underwhelmed. Great acting, but the story didn't seem that interesting. I found the music to be kind of average too

I have been on a bender lately and have been watching Bollywood like crazy, with no end in sight.
Raja Saab was a good oldie, but Aradhana was an even better oldie. I loved loved loved Om Shanti Om (Kiron Kher!!), but was really impressed with Chak De! India although I don't know if that counts as a Bollywood movie. Seriously, it was like bizarro world when Bindia attempted to seduce SRK's character. I mean, you couldn't see anything, and saris-in-the-rain scenes are a lot more revealing, but I think I was a tiny bit scarred. But I really liked the movie, and was really impressed to read it was heavily based on the life of a real guy. I also liked how simple the movie was, and that SRK's character was almost secondary to the girls, and I didn't think the social issues in the movie were too ham-fisted: the reality of ethnic diversity in India, and the Indian-Pakistan issues, especially with Kabir being Muslim.
Up next? Kal Ho Na Ho, Mujhse Dostan Karoge and Jodhaa Akbar. I think I need an intervention.

Jodha Akbar was one of my favorite movies from last year, chonies. So far this year, I've really enjoyed Luck By Chance, which is not yout typical Bollywood movie, but a good insider's look into the industry (with lots of cameos by actors).

Thanks for the tip, spycandy! The cameos really made Om Shanti Om, although I adored the movie overall. ETA: I also loved the engagement party wedding song montage in Mujhse Dosti Karoge. However, it was so long, I wondered if they were going to go into "Joote De Do" from Hum Apke Hain Kaun....
