oh so which is the one Aishwarya and Akshaye Khanna were in then? Taal. And now that we're talking about Aishwarya, I have to mention that I'm loving the soundtrack of her Umrao Jaan remake. The stills and promos are beautiful, so even if the acting and script end up disappointing it should at least look/sound lovely.

What is with all the remakes they're doing these days? First is "Don" although, I must admit, the trailer looked fantastic and SRK just might pull it off. Then there is "Rocky" which just came out I gather, I have no desire to see that at all. But "Umrao Jaan" too? I don't know Rekha was so wonderful in the original, it will be interesting how the new one plays out.

And then there's the new Sholay with Amitabh as Gabbar Singh. Is he going to be villainous (and believable) enough in that role?

Sholay??? I guess nothing's sacred. And with Amitabh as Gabbar, yikes.

Did anyone else see Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna? Different sort of themes going on. I have to admit to being a bit disturbed by Big B's playboy character. The trailer for Don looks interesting. Is that directed by the same woman who did Main Hoon Na? And yes, I'll be seeing Dhoom 2...hubby likes the action flicks.

KANK has all those big names and tries something a little different, but somehow I've never been that interested in the movie. The soundtrack has a couple of lovely ballads but that's it. I think regular Amitabh is attractive in an older man sort of way but it looks like they tried too hard to make him "Sexy Sam" in KANK. Checked the Don page too while on Wiki; it's by the director of Dil Chahta Hai.

Dil Chahta Hai is one of my all time favorite movies, so that just makes Don look even better to me.

Yes! Let's start a Dil Chahta Hai discussion. 1. Funniest moment, 2. Skeeviest moment, 3. Coolest moment, 4. Sweetest moment, 5. Cheesiest moment etc...
Saif AK and Akshaye basically made this movie for me, esp the latter. Amir K, although in some senses the lead, was totally the weak link, and while so many moments left me so pleasantly surprised at how un-Bollywood and cliched the movie was, the cringey moments that WERE there were inevitably Amir's.
1. Probably when Akshaye was looking at Sameer wax lyrical about the new girl he's fallen in love with, and was just like 'Sameer? No'. His expression was too great. I'm totally crushing on a guy in my kick-boxing class despite the fact that i have a bf - who attends the same class with me aaaahhhhh!!! - just because he looks so much like Akshaye.
2. When the 'cool' uncle (who incidentally played the child molester uncle in Monsoon Wedding) toasted Preity (with her crush and fiance the only other ones in attendance) as 'to the most beautiful girl in the world' and all 3 of them looked intensely at her. Ewwwww!
3. When Amir was mistakenly talking about it being a few hours earlier than it was and Akshaye cocks his eyebrow at him in that WAY he does and says 'in which part of the world'?
4. When Akshaye went to comfort the bunny boiler after Amir. Ok, the latter part of that discussion and his corny explanation about sand/holding tight etc was corny, but before that it was extremely understated and as such more poignant. The casual chatting when he clearly feels sorry for her but is not making a big deal of it and then asks her directly 'Deepa...why do u like [AK's character - i know it began with A. Telling i remember the names of the other 2 but anyway.] so much?' And in a rare moment of non-caricatureness she's like 'I don't know. I just do.'
5. Leaving aside the song numbers cos they're a given (that's one thing this movie did badly, there was nothing even approaching the sheer gritty coolness and rich ethnicity of Dil Se's Chaiya Chaiya), probably the scene of AK's proposal to Preity at her wedding and his hand out 'don't even think about it' to the approaching fiance. Gaah.

I'm afraid that I am an unapologetic squealing Aamir Khan fangirl, so I love him in Dil Chahta Hai, even if it was a stretch for him to be playing a college student. His character's name was Akash by the way, I remember there is a funny scene where Sid and Sameer make fun of the way bunny boiler (hah!) used to say his name. I thought all of the casting in that movie was good, but, Akshaye made that movie, I think that's the high point of his career. It's so hard to pick which moments I like best, I may have to rewatch the movie again.

This is a favourite movie of mine, and I loved the opening number.
