I'm torn. I love Lin-Manuel Miranda, Moana was awesome, and its songs were great. But honestly, I think that if the Academy had closed its eyes and picked any song from La La Land, it would have a better shot than How Far I'll Go. (I may or may not have been humming Another Day of Sun ever since I heard it for the first time on Saturday.)

I really loved Hidden Figures. I know it's got no chance, but I thought it was great. For the first time in a long time, I don't care if I miss the show and just catch the highlights.

I love "Another Day of Sun".... I really loved Hidden Figures. I know it's got no chance, but I thought it was great. For the first time in a long time, I don't care if I miss the show and just catch the highlights. Same here. One reason is that Leo won last year so my work is done ;-) but jokes aside, I just don't care that much anymore and I haven't seen any of the nominated movies aside from La La Land. |

ABC has announced that Jimmy Kimmel will host the Oscars again next year. It's rather flummoxing to see a network make such a wise choice. Jimmy did a fantastic job this year so I was pretty sure he wouldn't be back. This is a pleasant surprise. |

Last night I watched Call me by your name at a local film festival. If Timothee Chalamet doesn’t get nominated it will be one of the biggest, most unjust snubs ever. He is truly phenomenal, but not in a showy way. It’s how he makes you step into his character‘s heart and brain to the point where it’s almost uncomfortable. Not a single shout-y, big scene that Best Actor nominees usually boast which makes me root all the more for him and the movie. But he is truly the star here.

Really looking forward to Call Me By My Name. I need a good love story of "my people"! Google "My New Plaid Pants", a gay film blog that has some really good commentary on it.
Speaking of which, Emma Stone should be back in the ring after watching Battle of the Sexes. Much better role and much better performance than her winning one for La La Land.
