I know Joker led noms, but Todd Phillips getting a directing nom over Greta Gerwig or Marielle Heller is fucking lunacy. And Jennifer Lopez deserved a nomination, too.

I wouldn't want to be anyone on J Lo's PR team this morning. Awkwafina was robbed. After the GG win I really thought she had a nomination locked. Academy really is too old and white to get it. Cannot stand that Todd Phillips sneaked in with two nominations. Now he can make all the offensive comedy he wants. Would love for Parasite to win everything just to annoy the establishment in a Roma 2.0 situation but they're only going to give it best foreign language. I can't imagine the ratings are going to be good for the telecast this year, not with this shitshow of nominees.

I am glad Jlo didn't get her nom. She was average yet her pr team was laying it on thick that it was her time, etc. Nope, her ass thought.
The nominations are overly white though. I hope Scarlett doesn't take home anything.

Eddie Murphy wasn't nominated for "Dolemite is My Name". DAMMIT. He absolutely slayed that role.

Eddie Murphy wasn't nominated for "Dolemite is My Name". DAMMIT. He absolutely slayed that role. I thought he was amazing. I hope he continues to chose roles like it. He has talent. And Wesley Snipes was also great in that flick too.

Not so stellar nominations, no host...I might check out after the Red Carpet.

I'll still watch, but I'm not nearly as excited about it as I usually am. It really is a lackluster bunch this year. I've only seen three out of the seven Best Picture nominees (FvF, 1917, and OUATIH) and I have very little interest in seeing any of the others.
And I know Brad Pitt is "due" or whatever but I hope Tom Hanks wins and dedicates it to Marielle Heller. That she got shut out two years in a row is just so damn egregious.

I usually knit through parts of it, but I might knit through the whole thing this time. Usually I'm afraid I'll miss something if I look down at my work for too long.

Yay for Saoirse ( her 4 th nom!) tho I think Renée has it for Judy.
Anyway when are they on I need to get into all nighter training soon and make sure I have essentials like all gadgets fully charged, plenty of alcohol at hand and the day off the day after!

Can You Ever Forgive Me was not one of my favorite films, but it was certainly a contender for Best Director. I wish there was an alternative to the Oscars, or some other meaningful award that can validate some of these snubbed performances. It's the same people all the time, and the lack of recognition of good work by talented people is starting to make the entire process irrelevant and obsolete.
