Marriage Story is depressing, but there's a lot of humanity in it. It's a sad thing that this family experiences it, but Baumbach does a good job making everyone in it a fundamentally okay person.
I am not getting the love for Joker. Or the equal hate I've seen. It was okay. But, I'd honestly expect nominations for some of the Avengers cast, if Joaquin Phoenix got in for that.

So I think the acting wins are pretty much set: Renee Zellweger, Joaquin Phoenix, Laura Dern, and Brad Pitt. I do think that Parasite winning for ensemble at the SAG Awards may bode well for how they’ll do at the Oscars. I hope so anyway. I will be really cheesed off if OUATIH wins Best Picture.

Any thoughts on what awards season will be this year? So little has been released! I’m not talking about virtual vs live, but what will be nominated. Would any win have an asterisk because the pickings were so slim?

Still hoping Jim Carrey can pull out a win for Sonic the Hedgehog!
In all seriousness it is a great question. Likewise if release dates are pushed to 2021-2022, the mythical time when we will be "back to normal," is there going to be a weird glut of movies/performances?

I think any winners next year will inevitably have an asterisk to their awards, unfortunately, because it won't be a regular competition and so little has been released. OTOH, cancelling the awards seems problematic as well.
Right now, production companies are figuring out how to film and operate in the new circumstances. So no matter the situation, in 2021 and 2022 the industry will have come up with plans how to adjust their operations and filming/releases will have restarted in some form again. Perhaps they might double nomination spots in 2022 or something?

Blink and award season in upon us but I can’t help wondering if there will be any Oscars.

Yeah, what the hell are they going to do this year? I know there are still two months, but damn. Can a scathing documentary of politics come out and win everything?
