And nothing for Jennifer Aniston! All that hustle for nothing. Maybe Jennifer and Angelina can commiserate together over getting shut out?

I was watching the announcements and a person named Richard Pope was nominated (cinematography, I believe) but the woman read his name off the teleprompter as "Dick Poop."
And that concludes my contribution to this thread for now.

She also invented a new South American country called Argentinia. Her delivery was astonishingly poor given she's the president of the Academy and should have been coached in how to pronounce every nominee ahead of time. Here is an interesting perspective on today's nominations. However, I do hate when people make an issue of race and gender, as if ensuring diversity among the acting/directing/writing nominees should be based on anything but merit. I would hate to be a token anything among the nominees.

People make an issue of race and gender because it IS an issue, if folks weren't racist, it wouldn't be an issue.
Doesn't matter, I haven't watched the Oscars in about a decade.

I would hate to be a token anything among the nominees. I haven't seen Selma yet, so I'm admittedly just basing this on what I've heard about the movie, but I don't think nods to David Oyelowo or Ava Duvernay would have been tokenistic. I don't think people should be nominated solely for the name of diversity in a category. But when nominations are sooo overwhelmingly white and male, I think it's worth challenging whether the Academy is inadvertently sending the message that some stories are more worthy of being told than others.

I certainly agree a person shouldn't be nominated solely because they are not white. But this is the whitest Oscars since 1998 (at least according to the Huffington Post). I have a hard time buying there were no deserving nonwhites.
I'm really surprised by Bradley Cooper's nomination. BC, and really American Sniper in general, have been ignored this award's season. Never in my life would I imagine Will Tippin would be a three time Academy Award nominee.

I'm most annoyed about The Lego Movie not getting nominated for Best Animated Film. They were robbed I tell you, ROBBED! At least Everything is Awesome got nominated for Best Original Song.
I'm so psyched that Whiplash did so well, I didn't think it would get anything more than Best Supporting Actor.

What is sad isn't that all the acting nominations are white, it's that it happened because David Oyelowo was snubbed. That is he was the only black actor/actress who even had a serious chance at getting a nomination. I heard good things about Get On Up, Belle and Beyond the Lights but they were not even in the conversation. And I think that does say something about what and whose stories are considered prestige by the Academy. And it's not just about box office either, none of the nominated films are box office hits.
On a totally different note I am shocked that The Lego Movie did not get a nomination for best animated picture.

The 2005 acting categories included six noms for non-white people (two for Jamie Foxx) from five different movies. What happened, Hollywood?

Yes, I'm shocked at Bradley Cooper as well. Not that he isn't talented, but this is three years in a row! Is he the male Meryl?
Speaking of Meryl, really? She was fine in Into The Woods, but an Oscar nomination? I don't get it.
