I could understand if there were other actors of color who were deserving of a nod other than David Oyelowo (who should have replaced Bradley Cooper), but I think the color of the noms sadly reflects the color of movies this year. It was a good year for white men in crisis. I wish there had been more diversity in movies and characters to reflect a more diverse nomination pool, but it was a pretty whitebread landscape. Who else was left off the acting list who should have been there? For me, the bigger gasp was the lack of Jake Gyllenhaal, who's been racking up nominations for all the other awards shows.
Selma represents the fourth year in a row that a Best Picture nom told the story of race relations in America, so those stories are still being told and rewarded. I really enjoyed this film and how it delved into MLK's internal conflicts and family life, not just his role on the national stage (however accurate that portrayal was). I've seen all the films where the director got a nom, and wouldn't have opposed Ava DuVernay being included in addition to the others (she did a very good job), but I couldn't name one of them that I would have dropped in favor of her. So far, the only argument I've seen about her being "snubbed" is that she would have been a history-making nominee (African American woman), and that celebrates her demographic above her achievement (which does neither any justice). There were other worthy directors like James Marsh and Damien Chazelle who could just as well claim being snubbed.
This may be the least excited I've felt about the Oscars in a good long while. Let's at least hope the fashions are more colorful.

David and Jake Gyllenhaal should have replaced Bradley and Cumberbatch. Not getting started with the Ava snub but I'm not surprised.
I wasn't that big of a fan of The Lego Movie but it definitely was better than HTTYD2.
Boring nominations but I am a little tickled Aniston didn't get one.

She was a long-shot anyway and wouldn't have won even if nominated. But it wasn't for nothing - she got a GG nomination and her film got a lot of free publicity. I assume you're being facetious because otherwise, wow. I mean, should Clint Eastwood withdraw his name because he's been nominated 11 times and won 5 - more than Meryl. While I doubt her nomination this year is worthy, she won't win anyway. I don't understand why the acting categories are limited to five nominations. If it's a good year for male lead performances, why not honour that by allow up to 10 noms? And if it's a shitty year for lead female, then it would be awfully telling if there were only 2 noms. Obviously, Academy voters are brick-ist. That's probably true. And it would be nice to have lead performances by people of colour in movies that aren't necessarily stories of racial struggle. As in, have something like Into The Woods (done better - from what I hear, I haven't seen it) and starring some people of colour in the leads for possible nominations. Unless it's a biopic or set in a certain time period or place, most roles are colour-neutral.

Yeah. It was absolutely essential to nominate Meryl Streep for the 476th time and Cooper for the third time instead of giving one actor from, say, Selma, a chance. Since we all know that the Oscars aren't about the performances anyway, this shouldn't have been a problem. But it was, which in turn means that AMPAS has a massive problem. I don't mind people openly addressing this.

More like the male Susan Lucci. They may give it to him as an undeserved do-over for American Hustle the most over-lauded WTF did I just watch movie from last season. Is it bad that I hope he and the movie wins just to make Jesse Ventura continue to look like an even bigger douche?

I haven't seen a single nominated movie to date so I have very little standing to criticize, but I really hate that American Sniper is receiving the love. I understand Chris Kyle saved American lives in Iraq and I thank him for his service, but he also housed the heart of a thug. Of course that's okay because he's a white boy from Texas and when white boys from Texas play with guns and get off on killing it's patriotism and certainly not thuggish or anything to question or fear. Take that, Tamir Rice! Just another conservative wet dream and not the kind of person I care to glorify in the year 2015.

He can be good but he's not 3 Oscar nominations great. This year is the first time in a while that there are zero surprises - there's usually 1 or 2 nominations that weren't definitely called ahead of time. I thought the Jezebel headline "2015 Oscar Nominations Snub Basically Everybody Who Isn't a White Dude" was sadly accurate. No woman nominated out of 10 adapted and original screenplay slots (I thought for sure Gillian Flynn would get in for Gone Girl), composer, cinematographer or director. The Academy is so locked into the same people that they don't ever look outside their bubble to appreciate anything from anyone different.
