I don't know, I'm happy with the Brangelina nods, and I don't think it's just awards organizations wanting stars at the ceremonies since I'm not sure it's arguable that their performances aren't worthy of recognition. I didn't think Changeling was the greatest film, but Angelina's performance really stood out to me. Maybe she doesn't get in at the Oscars, but with the Globes expanding the lead acting categories to ten slots, I would have been surprised if she hadn't gotten in.
I do think the Tom Cruise nomination is ridiculous, but I don't know how much of that is wanting a "star" to show up (said designation not really fitting Cruise these days, unfortunately), and perhaps just the differing tastes of the HFPA, who may have really enjoyed seeing a Hollywood executive lampooned like that. They always nominate a couple off-the-wall things (Charlie Wilson's War last year, anyone?), but as some of the nominations show - like In Bruges and Sally Hawkins - they're not completely without some artistic taste.
I agree with Supporting Actor being the most "off" of all the categories - I was really hoping Liev Schrieber would show up here! - but I think a lot of that is always wanting to include a comedic performance in supporting since those categories aren't split like lead acting (which...I don't get, but whatever). It seems there's always at least one "lighter" performance in supporting in the Globes, which doesn't often translate to the Oscars.

At least Valkyrie didn't get anything. I know they won't but I hope they seat Tiny Tom at the back with the TV actors.

I liked Cadillac Records, and thought Jeffrey Wright and maybe Eammon Walker deserve nominations, but I'm totally schaden-ning that it only got a best song nomination. So much for that acting Oscar, Beyonce. Hee!

I hope someone gets drunk and makes an ass of themselves on stage. I also want Meryl Streep to win if only because she gives the best acceptance speeches.
Oh god, does anyone know if Rumer Willis is still going to be Miss Golden Globe? She was supposed to be last year but the writers' strike put the kibosh on that. I don't want to see her hatchet face all night long.

There is the potential for Tom Cruise to do that. He doesn't have to win. He could just be asked to present and I'm sure given the opportunity something strange will come out of his mouth.
J-Lo will probably show up at this thing but with the number of huge stars turning out for this I doubt anyone will care.

Atreides, I vaguely remember hearing she would be Ms. Golden Globes this year. Sigh...Potatohead trying to be relevant.

I can easily believe Streep will win her third Oscar, but Hathaway? Ingenues often win, but there seems to be a definite trend. They only win when they're not up against someone who is considered "overdue". Yes, Marion Cotillard beat Julie Christie, but Julie Christie, unlike Streep, makes very few movies, has long been semi-retired, and doesn't seem to be someone people were clamoring to win another Oscar. She herself seems to be very blase about showbiz in general, and awards in particular.
If Streep's hype dwindles, I'd imagine Winslet's will gain traction in that category. If Streep's hype stays high, I think she'll win.
It also doesn't help Hathaway's chances that she broke into stardom thanks to a movie, The Devil Wears Prada, that Streep basically carried and made into a big hit. I think Oscar voters will feel somehow "wrong" to choose Hathaway over Streep when it was Streep who helped make Hathaway famous in the first place.

I thought The Princess Diaries made her a star and Brokeback Mountain asserted her acting chops.

I was thrilled Valkyrie was overlooked and I was also pleased that Beyonce's shameless awards baiting role didn't pay off.
I'm thinking best actress will be between Kate Winslet and Kristin Scott Thomas. I'm hoping Winslet takes it. Not sure about best actor - Milk seems to be getting a lot of buzz so maybe Sean Penn?
