Not sure about that as the buzz on Milk seems awfully quiet compared to Benjamin Button or Slumdog. It hasn't had much precursor love. I wouldn't be surprised if Penn won, but that the film didn't. Slumdog has had most of the wins so far but I wouldn't bet against Benjamin Button or as a long shot the Dark Knight. I think Best Actor will be Penn v Rourke. I have a feeling Rourke's "reward" will be the nomination. Langella may be the spoiler here. Less well known actor, but it could be a surprise win.

So the producers are not releasing the names of any presenters before the big show in an attempt to draw higher ratings - guess we'll all be curious to see who is invited to the big show.
I'm guessing they'll invite Brad & Angie. So that excludes Jen. Tom or Nicole? Tom was just at the GG's and you know Nicole creates a fuss on the red carpet even though these last few yrs she has bored me.
I swear if they invite someone from high school musical - Efron or Hudgins - or some other teen pop tart/actor like Miley last yr I will scream.

Start screaming. The Jonas Brothers have a concert film coming out around Oscar time. If that's the case, they'll be there.

I bet Zaccy Efron will be there. Or they'll have one of the HSM girls present the science and technology Oscars so they can be at the real show as well and talk about it. As for other presenters, I'm guessing someone from Lost, Desperate Housewives or Grey's Anatomy?

If they didn't learn from last year they never will. And if they are still idiots they should check the the Golden Globes ratings. Its lowest in 12 years and it came on an hour earlier than the Oscars normal time slot.
They need to bring out the movie stars for the Oscars and stop wasting time with the Teen Choice/Emmy Award crowd of presenters.

I don't think Oscar producers really understand that a lot of people would love to see real movie stars (as few as there are these days) at the Oscars not the same teen stars they can see every time they tune in to the Disney channel. Sadly, the only big stars who seem to be willing to come to the Oscars every single year are TinyTom and CreepyJack. And JLo.
Then again....nothing can be as horrific as the 2003 (?) Oscars when awards were handed out in the aisle and nominees of the "smaller" categories were gathered on stage before the winner was announced. I'm so glad they've only done that once so far. No matter how awful the presenters, that Oscar show can never be outdone in tackiness.

I haven't seen The Reader but just found out that Kate Winslet is actually the lead, not a supporting role. I love her but I call bullshit on her Golden Globe win then in the supporting category. At least the BAFTAs got it right and nominated her for lead for both of her movies.

I had initially thought they were campaigning Winslet for Supporting in The Reader simply so she wouldn't split her votes with her role in Rev Road, but then I read that the Oscars have actual rules against a person being nominated more than once in the same category (clearly the BAFTA's don't). Why is that? It seems like they're just setting themselves up for the kind of thing that's happening with Winslet now.

The thing with Kate's part in The Reader is the same as what happened in the cases of Rachel Weisz and Jennifer Connelly who both were the female leads in their films but won for Supporting. One could argue that The Reader is mainly about the male character and that Kate's character is almost entirely seen through his eyes. The real (and apparently only) lead of the film is played by David Kross whose role is later played by Ralph Fiennes. I think the fact that AMPAS doesn't allow double noms for one person in the same category makes these cases happen. BAFTA has just nominated Kate for both roles in the Lead category. Who knows what will happen. Years ago the girl from Whale Rider was campaigned as Supporting (!) through the entire season (clearly the biggest attempt at category fraud ever), then AMPAS went and put her in the Lead category. Could happen again here. But I don't think they'll resist nominating her twice. They love throwing noms at Kate.
