Looks like a pretty good list of nominees. I'm personally thrilled that The Dark Knight didn't get a BP nod as I thought it was a pretty mediocre movie overall.

Honestly, I'm pretty surprised that The Reader got a Best Picture nomination. I mean, I thought it was good (if we're comparing Winslet movies, I liked Revolutionary Road better), but critics were so split on it and it hasn't been doing that well at the box office.
I really liked Winslet in RR, so I'm sad she didn't get nominated for that (although now she can't split her votes if people want to reward her, and she won't set a new record for most nominated loser). But yay for Michael Shannon!

Holy crap, I can't believe they actually gave Robert Downey Jr. the Oscar nomination he deserves. Too bad this is Heath Ledger's year, I wouldn't mind seeing RDJ win it (for the record, I think Heath earned it. If only these movies could have come out in different years).

Still surprised by their love for The Reader. They didn't like RevRoad and TDK all that much but I thought they might go for Doubt instead (four acting noms!!) or Wall-E in the Best Picture line-up. I'm all scared for Kate now :-(

I think I'm more surprised by the Springsteen snub than Eastwood snub.

I think I'm more surprised by the Springsteen snub than Eastwood snub. Before this award season I didn't even know who A.R. Rahman is but everyone who's somehow involved in any kind of award seem to love him a lot

I think I'm more surprised by the Springsteen snub than Eastwood snub. Same here. Why only three songs in that category?

I think I'm more surprised by the Springsteen snub than Eastwood snub. Same here. Why only three songs in that category? I've been wondering about that too since they've been doing that quite often in the past few years. It always used to be five IIRC and it's not like there aren't enough songs to pick from. But they went with three songs again this year. Including two from the same film. And of course A.R. Rahman also got nominated for Best Score.

I'm shocked at the love for Benajmin Button, which won no major Golden Globes and was a very mediocre film IMO. And Brad Pitt's makeup artist deserves the Oscar nod much more than he does. But I guess BB is the kind of sweeping "epic" Academy voters love.

I thought they had some new rule about the song category not allowing for double entries from the same film? Since "Enchanted" had three in the five song noms last year?
