Steve Martin also did an episode of 30 Rock where they worked together.
Baldwin has amazing comic timing (just check out his SNL appearances). And he's really good playing the straight man to someone who is a little more zany. I think this could be a good pairing.

I'm hoping it'll work out. If they get some good writers this year, it may be one of the best.

Yes, and I guess they cut the title song out too, which doesn't make any sense to me either. As for whom Harvey will promote, I heard that Marion Cotillard will be placed in leading as not to compete with her Public Enemies performance, and I'm guessing that Dame Judi Dench and Penelope Cruz will be pushed the most out of the other ladies. Cruz because she just won, and because she has the best musical number at least from what I've read, and Dench because she's so beloved by the Academy. From what I understand Hudson is playing Stephanie Necrophorus, a film critic. The character is in the stage production but only has a few lines and a cool little section in Folies Bergeres. The role was hugely expanded and a song added for the movie. I was in a production of Nine last year and I honestly believe half the music, as much as I love it, would need to be cut and replaced with dialog to make a film version work. It sounds like that's what they've done. As far as Oscar category placement goes, in the stage version, all the female roles are supporting to Guido's lead. If any actress is considered lead, it would be Luisa (Cotillard), with Carla (Cruz) a close second, however, both roles were considered featured, not lead at the Tony's in '03 so that kinda muddies things a bit.

Yay, Steve Martin! Not a huge Baldwin fan but I'm sure the pairing could be genius. I'm sooo happy they brought Steve back. ETA: I've just read that the producers initially asked Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. to co-host. I love Robert and I'm sure he would have been great with someone else but I can't stand Stiller who seems like the biggest jackass ever and is just not funny. Also, how would his ego have coped with being co-host? So glad that this plan didn't work out.

Steve Martin is my all-time favorite Oscar host, so I'm very pleased.... Ditto. This is great news!

I just saw A Single Man, and I hope Colin Firth is nominated for best actor. He was fabulous! I loved the film!

Thanks for the information, jynni. I was only going by the few early reviews out there because unfortunately I haven't seen the stage version of it yet. Hopefully, I will get to one day. Also, over at the Oscar pundit boards, there was big news yesterday because Crazy Heart, a lead Oscar vehicle for Jeff Bridges is going to be released this year instead of next year. Due to Amelia bombing, Fox Searchlight was left scrambling to find a replacement for it. I think it will be highly competitive for Best Actor if the buzz is accurate, and will probably be nominated in other categories especially Best Supporting Actress for Maggie Gyllenhaal.

I just saw A Single Man, and I hope Colin Firth is nominated for best actor. He was fabulous! I loved the film! The Weinstein Company picked up the movie for distribution, and Harvey Weinstein's publicly stated they intend to push him for a nomination, so it's probably a safe bet he'll get one. Having campaigned for Kate Winslet and now planning a campaign for Colin, I can even forgive him for being responsible for Gwyneth Paltrow having one. Helen Mirren has won Best Actress at the Rome International Film Festival for The Last Station, playing Tolstoy's wife, so I think she'll be back. Most reviews for her so far have been very good. She might even become the new Judi Dench, back year after year despite her age - she's got a few intriguing sounding roles on the horizon.

I want Sam Rockwell to get a nom for Moon. I have loved him in all the stuff I've seen him in, especially Galaxy Quest and Hitchhiker's Guide, but in Moon he is truly bringing the drama and the funny. I know he probably won't even be considered, but he should be.

I'm rooting for Sandra Bullock to get in. A long shot, I know, with all those young actresses plus Meryl and the film doesn't seem to have any other chances. But I don't care, I'm all for a Sandy nom.
