This marks the third year in a row that I've already seen all the Best Picture nominees. I'm so psyched that Up and District 9 got Best Picture nods, I thought Up might get in there but I didn't think District 9 would do so well. I'm also kind of surprised Maggie Gyllenhaal got nominated, she hasn't been nominated for anything else that I know of. And if it weren't for freaking Penelope Cruz Nine wouldn't have any major nominations. Oh well, at least it only got three. And Hurt Locker got nine nominations just like Avatar, that is so damn cool.

So, so happy that Jeremy Renner got a nomination! He totally deserves it. Otherwise, there are no real surprises for me. All of the nominees had gotten either SAG or GG noms.
Maggie Gyllenhaal was previously nomintated for Sherry Baby wasn't she?
I'm surprised that UP got a BP nomination and animated feature. Aside from the first five or ten minutes, I barely remember anything from that movie. There were a bunch of dogs and a freaky looking bird, right?

No real surprises for me either. I am thrilled that Jeremy Renner got a nomination. I've had a crush on him since SWAT. He made me watch the Untouchables. Sexy little mofo.
I know Gabby won't win, but this is quite an accomplishment. Monique deserves the nom and the Oscar. Her character was horrible, but, the role opened Monique's eyes to her own sexual abuse and began her healing.
I am also thrilled for Avatar. I was lukewarm on the film, until I saw it. It is a great technical masterpiece. Cameron deserves all the accolades he's receiving. I don't think it should win the BP, but every technical award it is nominated for. I really want a Hurt Locker sweep. Kathryn Bigelow made an excellent movie. So very intense.
All in all, I'm happy for the nominees.

For the first time ever I am far more invested in the Best Animated Feature category than anything else. I am so hoping that Coraline wins.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has never been nominated for an Oscar before, she got Golden Globe nominations for Secretary and Sherry Baby but that's it. She was good in Crazy Heart so I'm happy for her.

They nominated "The Blind Side" but showed no love for "(500) Days of Summer"? Boo. Anyway, not that many big surprises of course, I guess Best Supporting Actress was the only unknown (except Mo'nique of course). Very happy for Jeremy Renner.

I am so happy to see 2 frigging science fiction movies nominated! I know it's only because there are now 10 nominees instead of 5, but I'll take it. Yay genre! I loved both Avatar and District 9 (and Moon, which sadly didn't get any noms: Sam Rockwell was ROBBED) but I don't mind seeing other movies win it. I don't feel very invested in any of the nominations, except that I wouldn't mind if Jeff Bridges won.

It bums me that Coraline has been so overlooked in favor of Up. Still, I highly, highly doubt that Up will win the overall Best Picture award, which means that the voters will probably be tempted to give it the consolation prize of Best Animated Film.

I see comedies get screwed by the Academy again. I liked The Hangover, unfortunately the Academy didn't think it was worthy of a Best Picture nomination. Whatever.
To me that was the biggest surprise among the nominees. It's too bad Avatar will take up all the oxygen and win Best Picture just so the Academy can get its big television ratings.

For me, The Blind Side & Sandra Bullock = Erin Brockovich & Julia Roberts all over again.
Sandra can pretty much show up and collect her Oscar, even though I really didn't think it was that great of a performance. She pulled one of her better acting jobs in a year when the pool was kinda weak, and that'll probably be enough.
I'd love it if Gabourey Sidibe could pull an upset, but it just ain't gonna happen. At least they did nominate her.
