Now I've got that Nena song stuck in my head.
...99 red balloons go by...

That sounds like it. Does Le Balloon Rouge mean the red balloon? I get the idea that a lot of kids were shown this movie back in the day. I may have actually saw it on a filmstrip in school and never on TV (which would explain why it looked so old back then if it was made in the 50s). The thing that gets me is I saw this over 30 years ago and still remember some of the scenes vividly. I cannot remember anything else from that period that I was shown that I recall so well. Strange.

I must have seen it sometime in the late 80s when I was in elementary school. It was also a book, though I'm not sure which came first, the book or the movie.

I remember watching this movie on television when I was a kid (in the 80's). It was called "The Red Balloon"--at least, that was what it was titled in English.

I've seen the Red Balloon too. On Showtime when I was a kid. It made me understand these Monkees (I know shh!) lyrics: "I'm feeling very sad today. A Red Balloon got in my way. It followed me around and never touched the ground. What can I say?"
Ok I am slightly ashamed to ask this question. What is this movie? I can't remember much except they seemed to live in a city and were poor. One of them was blonde and kinda slutty and her boyfriend was abusive and did drugs, as well as the blonde slutty friend. The other friend is your normal drab looking girl. BUT she has a crush on the slutty blonde. She hooks up at one point with this pink haired girl at a "bar".....and then this gay kid (Played by Ricky from My So-Called Life), gives her some lucky coin and he gets killed that night. The movie was kinda lame but I never got to see the end of it....and I have no clue what the movie was. Nothing comes up in the IMDB for this movie and Wilson Cruz (who played Ricky from My So-Called life).

It sounds like All Over Me. Here's the IMDb description: Claude is a girl, BTW.

That's it BagOfBones! Thank you. It was driving me crazy. I wouldn't go out of my way to see the film, yet if I was flicking through the guide and saw it on...I'd watch, just so I can have the satisfaction of seeing how it ended.
Man...how did I miss it on the IMDB? I think I thought I'd seen it in 96 instead of 97 when it came out so I passed the title by.

What movie starts out as a black and white 50's film about a dentist/baker/barber or something then it turns out a joke...it's fairly recent. The past 5 to 10 years. Could it be Monty Python and the Holy Grail? It's not as recent as that, but it does start with that black and white movie thing. Just a guess.

I've looked high and low on imdb and the search engines for this film and I just can''t find it.
If I'm remembering it correctly, it's mid-70's, Disney or Disney-ish, and is mostly about a guy with a small submarine. I keeping remembering the actor as Dean Jones, but imdb says he did no such film. And I think the movie title had a day of the week in it (Tuesday/s? Wednesday/s?), but I could be wrong.
TIA
