I saw a movie back in April I forgot the name of. A young man, an unsuccessful writer, receives a stolen, experimental drug from a friend of his ex-wife's that boosts his brain power. He is soon writing bestsellers, winning back the girlfriend who dumped him, and playing the stock market. On the way he incurs the wrath of the Russian mob. Anyone know? Was it Limitless?

This isn’t really about any movie in particular. It’s more of a question/request for help. I’m looking for a really good 7 to 10 minute scene from a science-fiction movie that would allow the kids to watch and then identify tone and/or theme. I love science fiction but my mind has gone blank. I’m currently speeding through Gattaca, In Time, The Island.
You all helped so much a few years back when I was looking for a clip from a movie or a TV show to help me illustrate the meaning of the word exacerbate. So I’m hoping lightning will strike twice!

Maybe Ex-Machina? It does have lengthy scenes, especially the ones where the protagonist interviews the AI robot and completely falls for her.

Overall I don't know if it's the strongest movie, but there was a Denzel Washington movie several years ago called Deja Vu that was a more interesting time travel movie than I expected. There's a great scene where he's looking into the past that might suit your needs. Also it has a pretty creative car chase combining past and present events.

2001? Original Blade Runner? Minority Report? T1 or 2? Aliens?

Thanks so much for the scene suggestions! There are so many good films to pick from that my brain overheats trying to think of a specific scene. I’ve never seen Deja Vu so now I’m watching it for myself as well as for the part you mentioned!

Think so, especially if Bradley Cooper was the author/actor in the movie...

Low budget indie that I liked, Time Trap on the Netflix, but couldn’t really figure out the point. “Ender’s Game” is great...a movie anout young teens who think they are being trained for a space flight simulator actually are being trained for space combat without their knowledge. Book’s better, though. Arrival was OK; Ex Machina was cool; Minority Report was OK. Loved Gattaca.

There’s two young men - they’re friends and they’ve been out (maybe to a party?). They’re drunk, and the weather is starting to freeze so they head indoors - one passes out inside and when he wakes up, it turns out his friend didn’t make it inside and has frozen to death in the snow outside. Any ideas?
I also have the feeling that the dead friend’s girlfriend was pregnant but I might be mixing that up with something else.
