There's a movie from around the 80s/early 90s that I once saw where this man is forcing a girl to marry him. When it's her turn to say 'I do', he removes her gag. She tries to say no and he replaces the gag and answers for her. It sounds very Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, but I swear it's a different movie. I think it was a Western - I seem to remember a desert and everybody being quite dusty.
Anyhow, ring any bells?

There's a scene like that in "Taming of the Shrew" with Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. Def not a western and I think that was late 60's/70's??

*Sighs* Thanks for trying, guys. I've really got to console myself to the fact that I'm never gonna figure it out. Although, I don't think I've seen all of Blazing Saddles... I'll have to check it out, just in case.

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. The other night, my husband and I were doing one of those "how well do you know your spouse" quizzes. He was unable to give the name of his favorite movie but it went something like this:
Sci-fi, human and (possible) alien hermaphrodite, land on some mystery planet and have a baby together.
Would love to find out the name and possibly check off one stocking stuffer. Thanks for any help.

busterbrown, this might be a movie called Enemy Mine. It stars Dennis Quaid and Lou Gossett Jr. I haven't seen it in years, and parts of it are hazy, but from what I recall, the human (Quaid) lands on an alien planet and there's already an alien there. The alien is a hermaphrodite (or something similar) and they hate each other at first. Then they become friends and the alien has a baby and dies, leaving Quaid to raise it. There's slavery and kidnapping and it has a happy ending. A REALLY good movie. Highly recommended.

Thank you ernestine! After reading the synopsis on amazon, I'm pretty sure this is the right one. I'll let you know on 12/26 what I think about it.

It really is much better than I expected it to be. I didn't go to the theatre to see Enemy Mine. I went to see Clue. But though they sold us the tickets to Clue, they sold out the theater (or else people just snuck in) and there wasn't one empty seat in the entire place. So we walked next door and sat down in a dark, half empty theater not knowing what was coming on.
When Enemy Mine started I wanted to leave. Not another space movie! I'd seen no previews and heard no reviews and this movie sucked my teenage self in. I walked out sooo glad we'd seen it.
I much prefer it to Clue, which I eventually rented.

I've never heard of that Red Balloon movie but it sounds interesting. Your descriptions reminded me of that movie "A Patch of Blue", which was awesome.
