I was a bit upset when I read about Fright Night but I love Toni Collette and I think Colin Farrell may be a good choice...so I'm in a "wait and see" kind of mode.

I found a 1982 movie on Netflix called Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains about an all-girl punk band starring a young Diane Lane and Laura Dern, along with Ray Winstone ( later to star in Sexy Beast) and two of the Sex Pistols. I'm rewatching with the commentary and they're talking about how punk was actually on the downswing when they were filming it, but the makeup and clothes in the movie inspired some of the new wave style of the early 80s. They came back two years later (after MTV started) to film the tacked-on ending, and the girls were styled all mainstream like the Go-Gos or Bananarama or something and they were supposed to have become these huge pop stars.

I frikkin' LOVE that movie. It used to play late at night on USA back in the 80's. I recently watched it on DVD and the commentary was great. It sounded like they had a great time making that movie.

Cool!
You know, we hear about all these tragic young actors or people who never went anywhere and then you totally forget about the people who started young and went onto success, or at least steady work.
I kind of knew about Diane Lane's early work but I didn't connect the name and the face until her "comeback" in Unfaithful. I discovered Laura Dern as a David Lynch fan, and come to find out she had a whole 80s career too (granted she's from a showbiz family, so that might have helped things along a bit).

Ever see Smooth Talker with Laura Dern and Treat Williams? I think she was 15 when she made that, and she was AMAZING. Now that my daughter is 15, I think about that movie uneasily sometimes.

I saw most of it on cable, but I'd have to rewatch. It had an amusing write-up in Pretty In Pink: The Golden Age of Teenage Movies . It's also one of theose movies that probably wouldn't be made now because of "moral outrage". Speaking of which, it looks like Diane Lane was only 15 or so while shooting most of The Fabulous Stains and she has at least one topless love scene with Winstone, and was going around in a sheer blouse for much of the movie. How times change.

I just saw Footloose again for the first time in a long time yesterday. Despite the fact that I have an irrational hatred of Lori Singer, I love that movie. It always makes me happy. Kevin Bacon was so CUTE! (Of course, he still is in my book.) RIP Christopher Penn. *sniff*

Weee! Fun day on Amazon. Ordered: "She's Out of Control", "Troop Beverly Hills", "Three Men and a Baby", "Ernest Goes to Camp" and "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead" (which I know is from the '90s, but still). I had to whittle my Amazon list down too. Good stuff!!!
