The Changeling creeped me the hell out. I'm not sure how I would feel about it today because I haven't watched it since.

I saw "The Changeling" when it first came out in the theater! (I am old.) I remember how creepy it was - the bouncing ball, and the wheelchair!! I rented from Netflix a couple of years ago, and it's still creepy. Mr. Smee liked it too.
The movie that never fails to creep me right out is "Black Christmas." It's a cheesy slasher movie that takes place in a sorority house, but holy crap, it gives me the heeby jeebies. Definitely worth renting. The phone calls from the killer are especially creepy. Shudder.... I rented it a couple of years ago too, and it still wigs me out. Margot Kidder is in it, and Andrea Martin, Keir Dullea, and that chick that was in the Romeo and Juliet movie where you get to see Romeo's butt.

I just read this whole thread and then went and watched Threads on youtube.
I was 21 when this was made and I am so, so very glad that I did not see it then. It was chilling enough now but the poster who said previously about seeing this in the middle of the Cold War with Reagan in office...so very spot on. Would have been terrifying, it would.
What so depressed me is that had there been a nation left that could have sent aid, they would have so that just meant that it was utterly hopeless. I would hope for a bottle of pills and a large bottle of Jack Daniels, were it ever to happen.

So after downloading it after first seeing it mentioned here awhile back, I dug through hundreds of DVDs and finally watched "Threads". I'm ready for my pills and bottle of Jack NOW, MsMisery.

Lake Mungo. A week later and I'm still trying to shake it off.
I don't think I've seen anything scarier since The Exorcist. That was more flat-out frightening. This is a creepy-unsettling ghost story that lingers.
I'm not sure presenting this as part of the After Dark horrorfest line-up helped it, though. It probably turned off as many people as it attracted.

trifle, thanks SO MUCH for that tip. I downloaded it last night and was electrified throughout most of it. No, really, I could not stop the whole-body shivers. I can't remember when that happened last. Also? The dad is so freakin' handsome it's nuts. huntergrayson will drool.

Next in my queue is Lake Mungo. I need a good scare to chase the nightmares I got from Threads away.

bstewart, I'm so glad you found it as creepy as I did. I am still convinced that I am going to run into Alice (or the neighbor) in the hall in the middle of the night when I get up to go to the bathroom. Seriously.
