Ohhhhh, I so have to go to the store ASAP.
In the next two months, they're also releasing Last Year at Marienbad, My Dinner with Andre and, most importantly, Repulsion (which I've not seen because it's never had a proper R1 release) with a Polanski/Deneuve commentary.

Goody - I saw snippets of Last Year at Marienbad in my film class and have been dying to see the whole thing. I caught Repulsion when it was re-released in 97, but the commentary should be fascinating. Off to update the rental list....

I caught the Marienbad restoration when it played last year (if one looks at what Rialto Pictures puts in theaters, they usually become Criterion DVDs since the company is a subsidary)- it was gorgeous and confusing. I can't wait for the special features to illuminate things.
It should be said that all of the aforementioned titles are also going to be on BluRay.
I still can't believe that Paramount let Criterion have the BluRay release of Ben Button without releasing a Blu-Ray of their own.
ETA: For bargain hunters - I just glanced at Best Buy and Target - the 2Disc Criterion is 23 bucks until Saturday (that's $17 bucks off list) and the Blu is 26. I'm probably gonna go back later tonight and snag a copy.

It's about freakin' time Enchanted April was released on DVD. It's one of my all time favorite films.
Now if someone could release I Married a Witch on DVD I would be happy as a pig in well, you know.

Thanks, Gracie!
In all seriousness, though, I actually quite enjoyed "Mall Cop" in the theatre. We mostly went because I consider it my patriotic duty to see whatever plays in my neighborhood, old school, single screen, 850 seat theatre. I was very pleased that the movie was actually pretty good.

So, if I interpret the "hint" in the latest Criterion newsletter correctly, the reason Soderbergh's Che has not yet had a DVD release? Is because they will be releasing it this fall. Dude. Sweeeeeeeet.
If true, this film just leapt from "eh, I'll rent it one day" to "blind buy, without hesitation."

So, I had to let my jaw drop a little bit and giggle -- okay, I actually guffawed -- when I received the latest newsletter from Criterion, announcing their cooking video contest:
Um, what was that last line? "PlayStation 3, Criterion’s reference Blu-ray player"? You don't say.
As it turns out, the new ones coming out this week have dropped to $299 -- same price in Canuckistan! -- and I just might hafta pick one up if I can ever unload my TV, bike and Betamax. Yes, you read that correctly.

Yes, you read that correctly. What the hell do you do with the Beta? (We ditched ours in 80-something-or-other - top loading, and I don't think it had a remote. Ahh, the old days - can't call them good.)
