Over the top acting? Check. Catfights and (overt/covert) lesbianism? Check. Drugs? Check. A veritable love-fest of Quoteables? Check, check, check!
If you don't think they're as spectacular as Showgirls, I'll buy 'em off you, baby!

It started off a bit slow, but they had me at "Alright f*ggot, start explaining!".

As much as I love the camp factor of VOTD, part of me is always annoyed that they ruined the book, which is even trashier.
BVOTD, however? Is pure genius. I actually think it's good-good not merely so bad-it's-good. The LA Montage is one of my favorite montages in cinema history.
Original Sin is a great campy flick. It's so sleazy and trashy but Antonio/Angelina are just SO COMMITTED, acting-wise, to the sleaze that it's really enjoyable.

I love Original Sin, it's right before my beloved Antonio hit the wall. You've got the two best-looking people in Hollywood (IMO) who are also decent actors and it still manages to flop.

Wasn't Melanie also apparently going nuts because of all the graphic sex scenes and the rumors that Angelina and Antonio were, ahem, "rehearsing" them off-screen?

From imdb:
Not that I blame her considering Angie's rep. Also, Melanie knows the game, I think she and Antonio got together before he was divorced from Ana Leza (his first wife in Spain).

Oh, I believe him. I just think maybe he considers "going down on Angelina" as "just giving her vajajay a couple of kisses." It's been a while since I've seen it but I really should rewatch it. Thomas Jane also makes out with them both so...hotness. It took me forever to realize why Angelina's performance in the movie is SO FUCKING GOOD when the movie is pure sleaze - the reason is that the director is Michael Cristofer, who also directed her in Gia.
My friend and I spent a full 20 minutes afterwards trying to figure out whether it was a bad or good movie. We were like "well, the plot is absolutely totally ridiculous" but then were all "but the actors are just so awesomely committed to their performances."

It was based on a Truffaut film Mississippi Mermaid which was adapted from a Cornell Woolrich novel called Waltz Into Darkness. Woolrich also wrote the story that eventually became Hitchcock's Rear Window, so I think it one those "good idea in theory, bad execution" deals.
