I can't believe we haven't mentioned the granddaddy of all disturbing movies, "Deliverance". Dueling Banjos, anyone?

I have never seen the movie and never will. But just from what I've heard about it the song "Dueling Banjos" makes me break out in shivers. So, yeah, for a movie to freak you out when you haven't even seen it certainly qualifies it for one of the all time disturbing movies.

Ugh! My mother was staying at my place one night and I had this Tivoed, so she was innocently watching the news after I had gone to bed and the channel automatically flipped to the film. She turned it off after the first couple scenes, then asked me in the morning what it was. I had no idea what the film was about, so I just said, "Some indie film I heard was good." I watched it the next day, and I was soooo embarassed. After the first scene of half-naked boys stripping for dirty old men, she probably thought her daughter was taping gay porn. Wonderful.

That awful bit in Kill Bill 2 when she's in the coffin with the earth being shovelled on top. I was sitting in the cinema and I shut my eyes and it didn't help because the awful sound effects were still there. I swear I had to hold on to my seat to stop myself leaving.
Horrid horrid horrid.
Gah, now I'm thinking about being buried alive again.

I bought the Irreversible DVD of an auction site and watched it yesterday with my girlfriend. This movie is very intense and I couldn't say that I 'enjoyed' watching it but I am glad I did as it is beautiful shot, very minimal editing, intense lighting and well acted. However, three very disturbing moments in the movie
(a) When Vincent gets his hand broken by Le Tenia (or a guy who looks just like him)
(b) Le Tenia (or not, I don't know) gets his face smashed in with a fire extinguisher by Pierre
(c) When Alex (a beautiful Monica Belluci) gets brutally raped and beaten by Le Tenia.
Warning, this movie is not for the faint hearted as it includes also freaky music, crazy camera movement and light effects.

The very end of Boys Don't Cry will always be my number one disturbing movie moment. In fact, the entire things is just painful, but the end...either way, definitely the best movie I'll never watch again.

Should I bring up Videodrome? The whole thing is disturbing as hell but the meat videotapes into the stomach slit? EWWWWWWWWWW!!
Still, gotta love Cronenberg.

I just rewatched The Serpent and the Rainbow for the first time in like 10 years. Yikes. Too many disturbing things to mention. The dead sorceress pulling her lower jawbone off while making freaky squeaking noises? The extra long arms reaching out to grab Bill Pullman in the jail? Being buried alive? The worst thing of all - all of the souls being trapped in the clay jars and being controlled by the black voodoo master, and having him controlling their dreams when they return from the dead had me practically sleeping w/ the lights on last night. Wow.
