I love that movie. I know that it's kind of long, slow and pretentious for some people but to me the way it's told and shot is masterful. And Ralph Fiennes is wonderful in it. I cried when he finally got back to her. What a movie.

War Horse hasn't even been released yet, but the TV ads have me in tears every.single.time they air.

People keep assuming that we'll be seeing War Horse, and I keep telling them we're going nowhere near it -- the article in Entertainment Weekly about it a few weeks back was enough to make both me and Mr. S. cry. No way in hell am I going to sit in a theater and sob.

That reminds me of what happened when I saw the trailer for My Life Without Me, a movie I really don't think I will ever be able to force myself to watch. When you find yourself crying during a preview, it's one to stay away from.

I cried before the title came up in BOTH of the last 2 Harry Potter movies.
...And I knew I was going to be a sobbing mess, so I purposely went alone to them both.

When you find yourself crying during a preview, it's one to stay away from. This is the reason it took me over ten years to watch The Killing Fields. Not to squelch your experiences with The English Patient, but didn't Fiennes character sell a map or secrets to the Nazis? I remember watching that movie and getting all geared up for a great love story and then, what? He collaborated with Nazis? Even if it was for his love, that ruined the movie for me.

He tried to get help from the other side but they refused because he was Hungarian, not English. And thumbless Willem Dafoe did get to confront him about the fact that his selfishness had consequences for other people.

Thanks! I'd forgotten about that scene with Willem Dafoe. Probably too traumatised by his de-thumbing.
