I went to see Forrest Gump over the weekend in IMAX, and cried at all the same parts I always cry at. When Bubba dies, when Mama dies, and when Forrest is at Jenny's grave. The part when Jenny tells Forrest about their son, and Forrest says, "Is he smart, or is he. . .?" Gets me every time.

Even reading it just now, I got misty!

Yes! Tom Hanks really brought it for that scene.

Here's an unusual one that got me the first time I saw it, thirteen years ago, and still resonates today. In From Hell, when Johnny Depp is telling Heather Graham's Mary Kelly to get off the streets for a night with her other prostitute friends, gives her money and then pulls away when she tries to pet his hair. She gets immediately angry and shouts,
"What? Did you think I was paying you back?! I didn't mean it as business! I am still a woman, they haven't taken that from me, not yet!"
Then Depp grabs her and kisses her a lot. It's great.

Spoilers ahead! So I just re-watched Lion. Honestly, from the moment Saroo finally found his village via GoogleEarth to him meeting his mother and hearing that his brother had died, right through the end credits (featuring the real Saroo, his birth mother and his mum), I was basically bawling my eyes out. Holy shit, not a good movie for a Sunday evening when you're supposed to do school work.

A League of their Own, the telegram being delivered scene kills me every time no matter how often I watch.

Yeah, that telegram scene is gut wrenching. Especially because we know how many of those were sent out IRL during the war.

There was a scene from The Right Stuff that really, really gets me every time. The scene shows normal neighborhood life on base, kids playing and wives chatting across the clothesline type stuff. Then a plane crashes in the distance and all the wives and kids sort of freeze. One by one their phones start ringing in the house and someone runs in to answer it to find out if it was their husband/ father who crashed. Lived that once and it was a pretty dead on scene except for the 20 year time difference.

It was almost like she, and the other wives, were half living their lives expecting to hear that news. In her case, I believe a Priest came and told her. I've only heard her discuss it once, but it strikes me every time I see those scenes in films.

Having seen pictures of you, who does not look nearly old enough to have been alive during Vietnam, I'm thinking this story describes her first husband and this was before you were born, but if I'm wrong, then I'm sorry for you as well.
