Now if only people in the real world would get that through their heads. .

At least in "Ladybug, Ladybug" you see how her (seemingly relentless insistence on) having children only adds stress to their lives. "In America" really frosted my cookies because it romanticized having more children. Like, "Look! We live in a crack den, we can barely support the kids we have, but aren't we romantic! optimistic! free spirited! to have YET ANOTHER ONE?!"
Especially since the new baby was a blatant replacement for a lost child. Yep, kids are just toys.

But children are a blessing and motherhood is sacred and how dare you suggest that a woman not have as many children as she is physically able to! Besides, growing up in poverty is quaint, and always builds character and therefore makes for a good story. (insert sarcasm)
I liked " The 40 Year Old Virgin" but it had that tired 20- something year old sex comedy retread of a manly tranny (usually tall and black) scaring the bejesus out of our hapless white hero. Yes, trannies, gay sex, and black men are threatening to the sexually inexperienced white male. We get it. Ha. ha.

You know the part in In America where she ended up in that godawful public hospital ward because they HAD NO MONEY but were having another kid anyway? I laughed and only felt bad for about 2 seconds. And the husband in that movie was such a moron. You're going to support your kids as an ACTOR? When you're in the country illegally? Yeah, good luck with that.

I'll probably sound like an old fart/prude but here goes.
I can't stand the movie moral that if you're in love you can do anything you want; also it's okay to cheat on your husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend if they aren't nice. This was my issue with "Titanic." Rose's mom wasn't the greatest but she was still her mom and Rose just ditching the woman for Jack and letting her think she had been killed was just cruel. Also, Rose did steal the necklace that her fiancee gave her, even though he was a dick, he still gave it to her. Okay, I'm officially an old fart.

That was my exact problem with Titanic too, Neurochick. I didn't understand why the audience was supposed to root for Rose. Mainly my problem was with her choosing DiCaprio over Zane though. I mean really. Rich, gorgeous, manly Billy Zane versus girly looking poor DiCaprio. And he spit.

Oh no, I hated that too. In fact, Billy Zane's character didn't really seem THAT dickish to me. I mean yes, he was sexist but he was more of a product of his times than an asswipe. Plus, he didn't really get terribly violent with the shooting until the ship started sinking and he found out his bride-to-be was slutting it up with Jack. Not that slutting it up is ever an excuse for violence but if your life is at risk and your fiance has just cheated on you, I'd understand a slight mental breakdown.
I also hated that she totally stole that necklace.

Didn't Zane's character also smack her around and threaten her before even knowing about the affair? I'm no Dicraprio fan (typo intended), but I remember really not liking Zane's character.
I totally agree about thinking it was awful for her to let her Mom believe she was dead though.
Ug. Titanic.

Also, there looked like there was more than enough room for Jack on that floating door thing. Smart thing would have been to stay together so they could keep each other warm with their body heat. (How'd she stay alive in freezing weather for so long in that skimpy dress anyway?)

I think they tried to both get on the floating thing and it went under, so he had just her stay on.
