I hate watching the Oscars but the one time I was actually "entertained" by the Oscars was the show Allan Carr produced (Snow White & Rob Lowe). One reason I liked watching it was it went against the Oscar grain: Bad singing, famous unmarried (with children) couples presenting and Patrick Dempsey dancing.
You can't get any campier than that!

I love that too. It keeps things in perspective. I remember a bit where the Steve Martin (during his second time hosting) was talking about all of the movie stars he had slept with and then the camera cut to people like Halle Berry, Renee Zellweger and ERNEST BORGNINE. That alone was pretty funny but Borgnine did this little smile and wave and made it hilarious. THAT was awesome! I think after he mentioned all the young, hot actresses, he also mentioned Julie Andrews ( who is gorgeous, but is so totally classy she doesn't seem to fit in with the list any better than Ernest Borgnine, who I think came right after her!). She did something hilarious, like winked and gave a thumbs up - I don't remember exactly, but I do recall she completely played along with it. Yes, that was awesome! She did give a thumbs-up and a wink and kind of a dignified "yeah, that's right!" smile. She rules! I have another favorite Oscar moment involving Julie Andrews (maybe later in that same evening), when she was presenting some kind of lifetime achievement award. The awardee was really old, and when he came out onstage you kind of thought "oh no!" and crossed your fingers for him because he seemed so fragile and disoriented. You could hear him anxiously asking Julie about when to start his acceptance speech (probably trying to whisper but getting caught by the microphone). She handled it SO beautifully, didn't make him look silly or undignified but just kind of gently guided him to the right place and when the applause was settling down said very discreetly "now." It was a small moment but really nice, and her poise was fabulous.

Speaking of a whisper getting caught by the microphone... Years ago a documentary based on the life of Anne Frank won an award. The people accepting the award were so dignified -- No pumping their fists over their heads or "whoo hoos!" Given the subject matter of the film they were winning for, their demeanor was so appropriate. But the "caught by the microphone" thing... Miep went on stage with them! The real Miep! In fact, I remember gasping, "That's Miep! That's the real Miep!" Well, anyhow, she clearly felt out of her element and you could hear one of the men whisper to her, "You don't have to say anything..."
Damn! I've got tears in my eyes, now! Miep!

I think Julie Andrews is fantastic. Classy but with a sense of humor. I want to be just like her when I grow up.

I loved it when Stanley Donen accepted his lifetime achievement award and did a little song and dance as part of his acceptance speech. It was just so fitting and sweet.

I'm pointing y'all to this Youtuber's clips of past Oscar moments, mostly actors' winning moments (including the clips of the nominees). I'm sure it'll be gone soon so enjoy while it lasts. There are some great moments and some real tragic ones and then there are just real WTF moments even if we know the winner. It's also interesting to see who had been nominated. Susan Sarandon sure got nominated a lot in the mid-90's before she finally won!
