Oh God yeah, Monsters, Inc. I hated it the first time I watched it, but we saw it again recently and I cried my eyes out at the end. It was brilliant. "Kitty!" I have grown male friends who've cried at that ending. That rules.

And, Never Been Kissed - I think that kiss is my all-time favorite movie kiss. Cheesy, but lovely. And Michael Vartan never looked better!

Where is Michael Wartan?
Great movie ending but also a contender for most depressing movie ending was House of Sand and Fog. Seriously. If you feel like shit and think you have the worst life ever then watch this one and you'll first feel 100 times worse and then better because you realize your life doesn't suck that much. Boy, that's a really heart-breaking ending to a sad, sad story.

Can anyone spoiler the Mosters Inc. ending for me, please? I watched the movie and liked it, and faintly remember that the ending was good, but I can't find it on moviespoiler.com.

I really liked the ending to Match Point. I totally did not think it would end that way. Yeah, it pissed me off, but at the same time, I was impressed that Woody Allen let JRM's character completely get away with murder. The anti-Hollywood ending.

Oooh, that reminds me of another movie with a great non-Hollywood ending? Arlington Road. It pissed off my sister-in-law because she hated so much that the bad guys won.

OK, if I recall correctly based on memory: The little girl's door is put through a wood grinder which means the Monster's can't go see her again. The little girl is in her room and she opens the door and the big blue monster isn't there so she closes the door, looks sad, hears a noise in the door, opens it and the blue monster is there and she yells "KITTY!" and they hug and play.
Turns out the little green monster glued every little piece of the door back together so that they could see the little girl again.

Speaking of Bad Guys "winning" in the end, The Talented Mr. Ripley has a fantastic ending. Matt Damon acts the hell out of it and I felt so many different feelings watching that final scene; Tom Ripley had gotten away with everything and as a viewer you hate him for that and you definitely hate him for >> killing his nice cute boyfriend<<, yet you know he's totally fucked now and you can't help feeling sorry. That was an awsome way to end a movie.

That's close. << The door is put through the grinder because she's not scared of monsters anymore. Sully keeps one piece of the door keeps it taped to his clipboard. They've discovered that laughter gives more energy than screams and Sully has become the foreman now. Time has passed, Sully misses Boo and Wazowski gets Sully and takes him to the door that he has put together piece by piece. Sully takes the one piece he has and puts it in the door, making it complete and activating it. He opens the door and peeks his head in and the last thing we hear is Boo saying "KITTY!" and Sully's face lighting up with a big smile.>> Damn, it gets me every time.

I bawled at that ending! I just loved that movie so much!
Also ditto for the "Holy Shit!" factor of Primal Fear.
Anyone here ever see Torch Song Trilogy? The ending is of Harvey Fierstein, sitting in his and Matthew Broderick's home - Matthew Broderick was killed in a gay-bashing attack - and their adopted teenage son has called a local radio station to request a special song for his Dad. The son tells Harvey to turn on the radio, and it turns out he's requested this gorgeous, sad torch song called "This Time the Dream's On Me" (I forget who sings it in this movie, but it's also on the soundtrack for "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", sung by Alison Krauss - it may even be the same recording, because both are just beautiful). Anyway, he sits down in his chair, with the radio playing the song on the table next to him and slowly cuddles a framed photograph of Matthew Broderick to his heart, and just finally gets this happy, peaceful smile on his face. I just cried my eyes out, it was such a lovely and sad ending.
