Hee! Dick is okay, but D yke isn't??!
topic? Angelina Jolie's 'english' accent in the Tomb Raider films. wtf? I remember one reviewer saying it was like Princess Margaret with marbles in her mouth.

Slightly OT but I remember Hugh Grant talking about Renee Zellweger's accent in the Bridget Jones movies and that she took awhile to find the right one and did some experimenting, and at first it was very much like Princess Margaret and he did a rather hilarious impersonation. But then he said when she got it it was "spot on."

Elijah Wood in Lord of The Rings. My best friend and I still mock the way he said a particular sentence ("it's because we've been here before"). He was living with a bunch of Brits, you'd think he'd pick it up. Sean Astin, on the other hand, was awesome.
Also, Clive Owen's American accent in Sin City didn't work for me, which breaks my heart because I love him so.
Edit: Oh, I'm forgetting the worst one: Heather Graham in From Hell. It was so bad I can't believe they let her film the whole thing.

Oh shit, thanks Wol, you're totally right about Ben Kingsley and Maurice, not Harold and Maude. I saw them both around he same time and totally confused the two movies. My bad, sorry guys.
Oh man, I have a good one-- how about Tom Cruise's "French" accent in Interview with the Vampire. That one was awesome, right?

Heh. I don't mind Gwyneth's accent in Sliding Doors, Shakespeare in Love or Emma. They might not be perfect or the same accent a British actress would use (a criticism I read about her accent in Sliding Doors) but her accent didn't sound jarring or off and didn't distract me from the film or her performance in any way. I feel the same way about Renee Z's Bridget Jones accent. I am also a "yank" (though NOT a Yankee) so that might cause me to forgive a multitude of sins where British accents are concerned. I didn't even mind Ben Affleck's British accent in Shakespeare in Love (and that was decent at best).

I thought Paltrow's accent in Possession was terrrible. I think she worked with an accent coach on those other films, but decided she was amazing enough by herself for this movie.

May I submit Jessucka Simpson's Deep South accent in The Dukes of Hazzard. I mean sheesh! She's from Texas, so you think she could do a good job. I know, I know, Texas and Georgia aren't the same thing, but still. . . She can't even do a good Texas accent.
re: Dick Vanxxxx. Run both parts of his last name together so the censor doesn't think your typing's homophobic.
ETA: I must confess that I only posted here to see if I could get Dick Vanxxxx's name past the censors.
