ITA with whoever mentioned the climactic fight in Rob Roy-prolly the best swordfight in movie history. Totally character-driven. I also enjoy the brief but effective fight between Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy in 48HRS.

Recently saw Jason Stratham in The Transporter. Some highly inventive fight scenes there! I especially liked the greasy fight in all the motor oil or whatever it was. Cool flick!

It stands up. Great fight. Really. I believe Ebert still holds it as the standard of movie fights.
I love the Princess Bride fencing though.

Agreed on the fight between Elle and Beatrix in Kill Bill- gotta hand it to him, Tarantino NAILED that, from Elle's supervillian 'I killed your MASTER!' part to the genuinely shocking eye gouging denouement. Also loved GoGo in Volume 1- that evil little smile! Did anyone else find the fight between O-Ren and Beatrix really badly done, though? It just seemed so very flat, and the hyped up music completely at odds with the very slooow movements and lingering close ups. I also love it when the two villains of Battle Royale- the bitch Mitsuko and psycho Kiryama- climactically have it out. Kou Shibasaki knows how to work the crazy eye and Mitsuko's death is oddly affecting, particularly with the flashback of her being pimped out as a kid (and how creepy is that Barbie stripping moment) and 'I just didn't want to be a loser anymore'. Maybe I'm sick but I really wanted her to win .

Bumping this up with the Obi-Wan/Anakin fight from Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith, which is amazing, to say the least. How it didn't win the MTV movie Award for "Best Fight" is beyond me.

Because it didn't have Angelina Jolie.

I loved the fight between Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi in Crouching Tiger. That fight was so kickass. Also Elle and Beatrix. Basically where there are some good catfights without the scratching and pulling of the hair are good in my book.

Because I have the refined tastes of a ten-year-old boy, I loved the fight scene between Vin Diesel and the ninjas in The Pacifier. It was just so cool!

Hand-to-Hand Combat:
I usually like to see the struggle and desperation in these type of fights so the Bourne Identity series gets kudos from me.
Sword Fights:
I love sword fights in movies. I once found a sword-fighting website that listed the greatest swordfights in movie history and went through the list. My favorite remains the one between Basil Rathbone and Tyrone Powers in The Mark of Zorro: I think the fact that it was in such an enclosed space adds to its ferocity. Basil Rathbone was by far the best sword-fighting actor in Hollywood in his day.
Girl-on-Girl Action:
I second all those who mentioned the Michelle Yeoh-Ziyi fight in CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON. I especially loved that it showed off Yeoh's ability with various weapons.

I have to agree with this whole part - the Kill Bill fights were awesome! For comedy gold though, I've said it before and I'll say it again - Colin Firth and Hugh Grant beating the crap out of each other in the middle of the street to the strains of "It's Raining Men" in Bridget Jones' Diary was the funniest thing I've seen in a movie that entire year.
