Notting Hill. But not for Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. I love this movie because of the love story in the background between Hugh Grant's best friend and his crippled wife. It's sooooo tender and believable and wonderful and romantic. I adore this move because it's just a good movie, but their love story really sold it for me.
I love When Harry Met Sally and we quote this movie frequently around our house. Meg Ryan was perfect in this and Billy Crystal was actually cute (something he's NOT.... lately.
The Princess Bride. Westley is so sexy and he has so much chemistry with Buttercup and the movie is so funny!
That's all I can think of right now.
Oh, and Dwanollah, Empire Strikes Back is awesome. So much chemisty between Leia and Han. They fight and fight and fall in love. Great!

I absolutely love The Wedding Singer. It is so sweet and funny and it makes Adam Sandler seem so dreamy. Plus, the 80s music and Steve Buscemi. Sigh. Although it is pretty cringeworthy that one of my favorite romantic movies is an Adam Sandler movie.
Out of Sight - a movie that is so sexxxy and romantic. Clooney and Jennifer Lopez have never looked better (and she will never be so excellent and perfect again).
The English Patient is another of my favorite romantic movies. It is pretty messed up and messy for a romance but that only makes it better! The movie is filled with gorgeous people and it is beautiful to look at and flawlessly acted. Plus, you get two love stories - each moving in their own way - for the price of one.
I also love Lone Star - the John Sayles movie with Chris Cooper and Elizabeth Pena. Such a sweet, tender, bittersweet and er... surprising love story. It is amazing that a film can feature incest and still be so romantic and lovely.
And, the last one (for now) is Read My Lips. A french drama/thriller with Emanuelle Devos and Vincent Cassel. It is a pretty complex film full of twists and turns but at the center of it all are these two characters who sort of make each other feel more alive (or something - it is hard to write about romance without sounding like an idiot) even as they play mind games with each other. Man, I love this movie.

While you were sleeping : Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman had great chemistry and it was such a sweet romance. The scene at the dinner is the best scene in the movie, where they sort of grin at each other amidst all the chaos.. Not to mention the "Leaning..." Also the "You Suck" exchange with Peter Gallagher. Pullman: "You Suck" Gallagher: "Wait. Me or the suit?" Pullman : "Its a toss up"...
2 weeks notice : Loved Hugh Grant and Sandra in this one. They had fantastic chemitry and were much more suited than Grant and Julia Roberts..Loved the fake speech that he reads to her in the end. Also love the scene where he spots her all dressed up at a party, and the quiet helicopter ride...

Ooooh, people mentioned Last of the Mohicans. I can't believe I didn't think of that one right off. "Whatever happens, stay alive! I will find you!" I think the first time I saw that I was literally holding my breath, the chemistry and tension were so potent.
Obviously Hawkeye and Cora were the intense pair, but Alice and Uncas had that subtle thing going on. And although Duncan was not a sympathetic character throughout most of the movie... Hell, he demanded to be burned alive in Cora's place. Even though Hawkeye stepped forward, my take on it was that Duncan was realistic and knew that of the two of them, Hawkeye had the better chance of getting Cora out of there in one piece... So he sacrificed himself.

So he sacrificed himself. I never thought about it that way...I always assumed that Duncan finally realized Cora would never love him the way she loved Hawkeye, and really doesn't want to live without her either. It's the one selfless thing he does in the film and it is very moving.

OK, am I the only one who likes Bed of Roses with Christian Slater? Sure there are plot holes but I like the fact that neither one is excessively good looking and they both have all these issues and baggage that get into the way of love but at the end they're willing to still give it a go. All of the dippy "secret garden" stuff and the "I quit my high powered job to own a flower shop" crap was silly but I liked that movie.

It's the one selfless thing he does in the film and it is very moving. That's what I thought too. That has to be one of the most passionate love stories I have ever seen. Romantic scenes. I love love, the last scene from Indecent Proposal where they're sitting on opposite benches, their backs against each other and she says something like: 'Have I ever told you that I love you?' 'No.' 'I love you'. It was such a painful and beautiful moment. I love that movie too even though this may one of the few movies where I liked the girl with both men. Weird 'cause they usually make movies to make you love one and hate the other but Robert Redford was oh-so-charming!

I love Indecent Proposal as well! You think the deck would be stacked against 1)the dick who pays a woman to sleep with him OR 2)Woody Harrelson over Redford because of the money and hotness but the story really was very balanced and thoughtful and romantic. I think it is a big part of why I unconditionally love Woody Harrelson.

Mine is another geek classic The Princess Bride, followed by Ever After and Say Anything. I still go a bit gaga over the 1997 Romeo & Juliet with Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio but that is one of those ones that when you see as a fourteen year old girl on her first (not a)date with a boy it sticks with you. Center Stage has that same effect on me too!

The Princess Bride. Westley is so sexy and he has so much chemistry with Buttercup and the movie is so funny! Hee! When I was in the third grade we watched this movie in class and I remember that all the girls ended up with this huge crush on Welsey. We kept quoting "As you wish" over and over again. It's still one of my favorite movies. My choice for romantic movie would be Harold and Maude. It's kind of an odd choice, but I found it really touching.
