I was inspired to start this thread after I watched Penny Serenade on TCM last week. Until now I was never really a Carey Grant fan, but after seeing his performance in this film I suddenly understood what all the Grant fuss was about. He really pulled of an emotional role and I was genuinely moved. I watched A Place in the Sun with Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor last night. Robert Osborne was gushing over this film, but I just wasn't feeling it. I normally like Clift and Taylor, but didn't form a connection with either of their characters in this one. i just replied to your initial thread but i forgot to click on the quote box,oh well ! my reply is #100 on page 11,i didnt like a place in the sun either, its very overated,now... raintree county, with the same two leads, is another story!

I'm watching A Marjority of One on TCM. Holy crap, it is unbelievably bad. They cast Alex Guinness as a Japanese Man! Imagine Obi Wan with a permanent squint and a Japanese accent that sounds like more like French with a few 'sank yous' thrown in.

Haha! That reminds me of Ricardo Montalban playing a Japanese Kabuki (or Noh?) performer in that Marlon Brando flick, Sayonara.

May I nominate Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's?

You're all wrong! It's *got* to be John Wayne as Genghis Khan. Come on, now!

How about Brando in "Teahouse of the August Moon"? I was going to mention that, but it wasn't actually a horrible performance so I didn't think it would count. I did think of mentioning Mary Poppins because of Dick Van Dy*e's execrable accent. Ruined the whole movie for me, and I was in 5th grade when it came out. (and I loooove Dick Van Dy*ke!)

Because of that performance my first viewing of Mary Poppins was also my last, and I vowed that if I ever met Dick vanD in person I would punch him in the face. ETA: and yes, even though he's nearly 90 I would still punch him in the face.

What? Nobody's going to mention Sean Connery in The Untouchables?
Bert's Cockney was bad, but I forgave him when the chimney sweeps started dancing.
