I'm in the middle of watching Kiss Me Kate again. Mysognistic as hell, but so much fun. Every single song is a winner, and my God, Howard Keel was one hunk of man.

Had to chime in that I love this movie - the musical numbers are great (in spite of the fact that I don't like Kathryn Grayson's voice). Brush Up your Shakespeare is classic and From this Moment On is one of my favorite dance numbers ever with an early Bob Fosse. Now I need to watch it again.

I love Kiss Me Kate -- though after seeing it on Broadway a few years ago, I think I prefer that version -- and I always love Ann Miller. I was just watching Easter Parade this weekend while on a Judy Garland kick and I had to rewind her Shakin' the Blues Away number to watch it a second time. Amazing that she did that after breaking her back.

Ann Miller was incredible. Beautiful, sexy, a decent singer, and danced like a dream. A bit like a female Gene Kelly.
Am I wrong, or did I read somewhere that she and Kathryn Grayson didn't get along? Ann referred to "my friend Kathryn Grayson" in Kiss Me Kate's DVD extras, but I'm a bit skeptical.

I watched Anastasia on Netflix the other night, and was reminded of how much I love Yul Brynner. That man had such a great voice.

Howard Keel is indeed one hunk of a man. Good god. Which is why when Seven Brides for Seven Brothers comes, all activity in Casa de Gracie comes to a stand-still.

I know, right? I was always sorry that they didn't find an excuse to have him sing. I bet he still had the chops.
One fun thing I learned about Kiss Me Kate: they intended to film it in 3D (which is why Ann Miller tossed her gloves towards the camera during the It's Too Darned Hot number), but during filming, the 3D fad died. Wonder if that'll happen again now?

Turner Classic is doing Oscar month right now. Totally overloaded today watching. Witness for the Prosecution, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? All this morning! I've got crap to do but couldn't look away.
