Ball of Fire -- This is the first Barbara Stanwyck movie I ever saw and, since she's one of my favorites, I have a real affection for this one. She and Gary Cooper made a great pair (he did a good "stiff and befuddled") and it was just chock full of character actors like Henry Travers and S.Z. Sakall. Drum Boogie! Love this movie. When Howard Hawks was on his game, there was no one better. I lose my s**t over City Lights, Rebecca, The Third Man, Singing in the Rain, Sunset Blvd., of course Casablanca and Citizen Kane, and the Errol Flynn Robin Hood. I want to love Wuthering Heights, but I just can't. Too much Merle Oberon melodrama. And The Red Shoes screwed me up good. Not a movie for little girls, no matter how much you want to be a ballerina.

Aw, he hated Arsenic and Old Lace? I think every single person is brilliant in that film. It's one of my all-time favorites. I giggle each time I watch it.
Oh and ditto, Wol. Red Shoes can mess a little girl's head up. But still, I love it.

Most of my favorite classic films have Humphrey Bogart in them. I love me some The Big Sleep and The Maltese Falcoln. (Really glad to know The African Queen has made it to DVD.)

This is a fantastic thread. All About Eve is my favourite Bette Davis film as well. I'll watch Now, Voyager and Jezebel whenever they air. Has anyone seen Letter to Three Wives with Linda Darnell? My boss lent me the tape (yes, tape) and I was hooked. I love all things Bogie, In A Lonely PLace is a great one. And I LOVE The Big Heat with Glenn Ford , Gloria Grahame and a young and savage Lee Marvin. I'll go now, this is too much fun!

I forgot about Arsenic and Old Lace! That movie's hilarious! Teddy and the trumpet, digging graves!

Ann Sothern is awesome it--It cracks me up the way she always responds "uh-huh" to anyone wanting something from her. And Jeanne Crain was just so lovely in it. Speaking of Jeanne Crain, she stars with my all-time favorite actor, William Holden, in Apartment for Peggy, which is a sweet movie about a young couple adjusting to life post war. Anybody else seen Mr. Blandings Build His Dream House with Cary Grant and Myrna Loy? Such a funny movie, and Myrna is in top form (well, they both are).

When she goes through all those long, detailed color descriptions ("go down to the market and get a pound of their finest butter, that's the yellow I want"), and the contractor says to the worker, "Did you get that?", and the guy replies, "Yeah. Red, yellow, blue, green, white", I lose it. So freakin funny.

I have not only seen it, but I own the DVD. I love it! I recently saw The Egg and I starring Claudette Colbert which is another great one in a similar vein. About a year and half ago, I bought the silent film Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans and it instantly became my favorite movie of all time. It was amazing.
