My favorite Cary Grant movie is Holiday with Hepburn. It is a greatly overlooked film.
To Catch A thief and North by Northwest are good ones, too. I always wonder if Grant was perpetually tanned or if he just had very dark skin. It really shows up next to Grace Kelly and Eva Marie Saint.

So I take it I am not the only one who has TCM on their favorites key on remote control.

Nope. It's the one thing I miss about not having cable. Whenever I'm at my parents' house, unless there's something that they specifically want to watch on TV, over to TCM it goes.

Speaking of TCM, this morning they were showing a movie that I had forgotten all about. It was Kind Hearts and Coronets with Alec Guinness playing about 8 different roles. I had forgotten that watching someone eliminate the competition for an inheritance could be funny.
Another favorite of mine that hasn't been mentioned is Sullivan's Travels. With hobo Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake what's not to like?

Not too long ago TCM did an Ealing Studios marathon where they showed Kind Hearts and Coronets, Passport to Pimlico, The Lavender Hill Mob, etc. There was whole day in front of the TV! Sullivan's Travels is a great movie. I think my personal favorite Preston Sturges film (well, tied with The Lady Eve), also starring Joel McCrea, is the The Palm Beach Story. Claudette Colbert and the scene with the Ale and Quail Club kills me. Plus I love, love, love Mary Astor ("Nicht, Toto!").

Yay, I love this thread. I'm a classic movie newbie (I just got TCM with my TV package) Thanks for all the great movie tips.
I was watching Hepburn and Tracy in Woman of the Year last night but fell asleep before the end. Did Hepburn end up abandoning her career and lifestyle to be a "good wife"? I hope not. I normally like these lighthearted movies, but when Tracy brought the little orphan back to the orphanage I don't think I've ever been so pissed off at a classic movie actor.

I was watching Hepburn and Tracy in Woman of the Year last night but fell asleep before the end. Did Hepburn end up abandoning her career and lifestyle to be a "good wife"? I hope not. Unfortunately, LAX, at the end of WOTY, Hepburn tries to woo Tracy back by surprising him with a homecooked breakfast and chaos ensues in the kitchen. The strong, smart, talented (albeit insensitive and selfish) Tess gets watered down into milque-toast in an offensive scene and she promises to basically subvert herself and be the little woman he thinks he wants her to be. I hate the ending of that movie. Much better, indeed superlatively so, Hepburn & Tracy: Pat and Mike, Desk Set and Adam's Rib. Also battle of the sexes films, but done well.

I love Desk Set- we watched it in library school! The clothes are so much fun in that era.

Desk Set is sublime. TCM showed The Best Years of Their Lives this weekend. That might be my favorite movie ever.

One of my all time favorites is Shadow of a Doubt. I love Hitchcock anyway but Joseph Cotten is just amazing as Uncle Charlie. And in Gaslight playing somone SO different than Uncle Charlie he is just as good. Man, I love me some Cotten.
