Now if we can just get Clooney for Blomkvist! /kidding

is Lisbeth.
I've seen this girl in other stuff and she seriously cannot act ya'll. She was in the remake of "Nightmare on Elm Street" and this short clip was basically how her face looked for the entire movie: Elm Street Suckage I'm not expecting Oscar-level acting in a horror movie, but damn, at least look a little scared when Freddy is coming near you! Maybe she's been taking some acting classes if she was able to land the Lisbeth role.

Aww, she looks too glammy to be Lisbeth, but we'll see what the end result is, what with movie magic and all.

I actually know Rooney and she's a very nice person. I hope she'll do well.

Well, supposedly, the Swedish company that put out movies 2 and 3 actually had planned to make books 2 & 3 as a miniseries, but once the first movie broke box office records over there, they got greedy and decided to re-edit what they had into a movie and rush it to release. That is why even though I enjoyed the second movie, it felt pretty rushed and truncated.
Based on the Nightmare on Elm Street clip, I really hope Rooney Mara has taken a lot of acting lessons since, because otherwise, the remake is not going to be pretty. Especially if the "English in Swedish accents" rumor turns out to be true.

I just saw The Girl Who Played With Fire and, while I loved it (love Noomi so much!), if you hadn't read the books you would have been in a world of trouble following the plot line. The shots of Stockholm and the countryside were stunning though.

I don't think that he has a thread so this seems like the most appropriate place to post that Miss Rapace has (a) landed the role of RDJ's love interest in the Sherlock Holmes sequel and (b) hired Marion Cotillard's "team" of PR folks in hopes of following her footsteps to an Oscar nom.
Keep in mind that this is coming from someone who hasn't read the books or seen the films, but I don't understand the "OMG, an American remake is blasphemy!" idea. These books are considered straight-ahead but well-done suspense/thriller genre fiction, right? You know who is really quite amazing at directing suspense/thriller films? David Effing Fincher.

I am looking forward to seeing how the American versions turn out (and the casting and directing choices are super promising) but I'm still, like, "is it that freaking hard to read subtitles, people?" The Swedish films are very good. Noomi is sensational. Why remake it? Come up with a decent idea of your own, Hollywood studios, and stop pinching from the best of foreign cinema!
I think, also, with these films that there is a sense that the story will be "Americanised." Lisbeth will be super pretty underneath her goth exterior, her and Mikael's story will become one of unrequited love, her feminism will be softened, and it will all neatly be wrapped up in a shiny feel good bow at the end.

I don't know... if they tone down some of the outright misandry of the original I wouldn't be displeased, even if in general a remake seems uneeded.

Am I the only person who thinks Fincher is overrated? He's competent but he seems like...aggressively higher middle brow. If that makes sense.
