Thirded on the commercials or radio bits that include alarm clock noises, phones ringing, cars honking, etc. One of the stations around here does a 'traffic sound' montage in the morning and it's awful.
I try to avoid the radio in my car too, but mostly because they play the same 10 songs over and over, and when they aren't playing Jason Derullo and Telephone and Hey Soul Sister, they're talking.
I actually like the Jack FM station because it's mostly 80s near me, and I love 80s music.

Pandora is a good site for the newer music, but I gave up on them when they kept tainting my Sinatra/Martin/Davis channel with Coldplay, Blur, etc. Go figure. I like Grooveshark because it lets me create playlists of just about any artist or any song I like, no limit, no cost, and no recorded ads. So I create the playlists at home, then link to them at work, and listen for hours. Awesome site.

I gave up on commercial radio years ago. I may scan through once in a while to catch a song I may like. We have a fab local radio station here that plays a great variety of non-Top 40 music and is commercial-free. The djs program their own sets and are generally interesting to listen to. That and NPR makes me happy. HATE radio commercials.

The woman, Jackie talks in this soft monotone, but you can hear the spit in her mouth swishing around. It grosses me out. Ew, I hate that too. There a lady on one of the local stations here who always sounds like she has permanent cotton mouth because I can always hear the saliva or whatever crackling in her mouth when she talks. Gross and annoying sounding.

Things St. Louis stations do that annoy me:
1. Playing the same stupid sh*t songs for '80s-anything. There was more than "Down Under", "Walking on Sunshine" and Michael Jackson, people.
2. Classic rock stations that have to put Peter Frampton and "Sweet Home Alabama" on every hour.
3. Taking off the morning show on K-Hits (the classic rock station), which was usually pretty relevant to the area and replacing it with "more music." The DJ, JC Corcoran, was one of those love-him-or-hate-him guys, very left-wing, who would rant and rave and blah and piss people off on a regular basis. However, they would usually be talking about something current and interesting in the mornings, and had great Cardinals-opening-day shows and Christmas shows, etc., AND when JC and John Ulett, the other guy on the show, would get to talking about music, etc., of the past, it was always an educated discussion and was interesting. Now they hung on to the IDIOT woman who was on that show (she's so entertaining because she does kids' voice impersonations! How funny!) and I have cruised past it once or twice, but it's dull. I now play CDs on the way to work.
3. The Top 40 station plays everything at a slightly faster speed than it's supposed to. Anybody know what's up with that?
I really like First Wave on Sirius. I play it on my boyfriend's Dish Network while I"m cleaning the house. Richard Blade is the English speaking guy (I think?) and he was on "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." I think he was also a big time DJ on KROQ in LA in the '80s, but I may just be making that up.
Another annoying thing about St. Louis radio--relegating Les Aaron, another very well-informed DJ, to one hour on Sunday nights! He was the soundtrack to my early college years, teaching me about British and American '80s and '90s alternative music, every day from 10-2. His retro lunch was always interesting. Stupid KPNT.

I hate when music stations play new songs or alternative songs and NEVER say who the band is or what the song is. It took me years to find the song "Born Slippy" because the radio station that occasionally played it never announced it even 30 minutes before or after.

It took me years to find the song "Born Slippy" because the radio station that occasionally played it never announced it even 30 minutes before or after. Oh, I hate that, too! They used to at least tell you who was singing, even if they didn't give you the song title, but now--nada. I've been known to note the time I'm listening (usually in the car) and check the station's 24-hour playlist online when I get home to find out what that song was, but that's not the most convenient method and personally, I think they make you do that so their websites will get more traffic. Boo.

Like everyone else that listens to the radio regularly, I can't stand when stations play the same songs over and over again to the point you get sick of them. I liked that new Train song Hey Soul Sister when I first heard it, but after hearing it over and over again I turn the station as soon as I hear the intro.
Same with a lot of the 80s songs they play: Fifteen years ago, I was so excited to hear Summer of '69 for the first time in years but thanks to constant overplay I can't stand that song anymore. Sometimes I wish some 80s songs would be banned from the radio for one year thanks to being played over and over again (the above song, I Love Rock n' Roll, Every Breath You Take, You Give Love a Bad Name and many others).

Is it a requirement that the classic rock AND the "OMG we're so unformatted!" stations have to play "Janie's Got a Gun" and "Wanted (Dead or Alive)" all the freakin' time?

We have a new radio station here that is actually enjoyable. Craziness. However, they play STP's "Between the Lines" at least ten times a day. I no longer like that song.
