(I remember a thread like this at the Other Place and thought I would start it here.)
Is there something that your local radio stations do that bug the crap out of you?
The thing that annoys me the most is when the on-air people tells their listeners the time; they'll say it like, "It's 5:42; 18 minutes before 6 o'clock/ it's 10:23; 23 minutes after 10 o'clock."
I avoid listening to the local morning shows because they all say the time like this, like they think their listeners are so stupid that they need to be told what "5:42" or "10:23" means.

One of my local DJs is THE WORST about talking over songs. I know all radio DJs talk over at least a little bit of the music and I'm used to it, but this guy is blabbing right up to the very nanosecond the person starts singing. If you ever see me in my car yelling "Shut up! SHUT UP!" it's probably because of this.

In the past year, my favorite radio station laid off several on-air personalities, replaced them with idiots who have very little knowledge of the local music for which the station was famous, lost the beloved program director/on-air dj to burnout (and probable frustration at the recent layoffs), and brought in some corporate wonk to slowly but surely turn our unique Austin radio station into some weird amalgam of Bob/Jack FM, the local classic rock station, and leftovers from the old programming. It used to be the place to hear new music from up and coming bands and artists--now they're playing Tears For Fears, Led Zeppelin, and Jason Mraz back to back. This makes me sad.
Thanks for creating this thread--now I have another place for my annual Christmastime rant about the 24-7 Christmas music station!

One of my favorite all-time Detroit DJ's recently retired - guy by the name of Dick Purtan. Woke up to him and his gang for years. Funnier than all getout. So I thought I'd try the "other guys" for a while - another "breakfast gang" type of show.
The main guy is SO FREAKING ANNOYING. He's become very opinionated on local stuff lately and doesn't give anyone else on the show any room to hold a different opinion. This morning, it was all about Miss USA (who's from Dearborn, Michigan) and he's whining about her abhorrent behavior and how it degrades women. The women on the show really didn't share his opinion and he started to try to guilt them over to his side. I turned it off and switched my wakeup station to my original one. I was SO annoyed at this guy - yo, asswipe, it's just an opinion! Get over yourself. Sheesh.

I have a major annoyance with one of the stations in my area. They have the DJ's say really, really bad "jokes" before songs out of the blue for no apparent reason.
Yesterday I turned the radio on in my car and hear the DJ say "Lindsay Lohan is dating a woman again, so she's officially a lesbian. Makes me wish I were a lesbian." Wha??? Somebody didn't get the memo that Lindsay Lohan is not considered desirable to anyone anywhere.
To top it off this quick statement was made after commercials and before a Selena Gomez song. There is no point of reference at all. He's apparently just reading the next thing to say off a list. They do this all the damn time no matter who the DJ is, so I assume it's some stupid policy.

The radio station I listen to has a "Totally 80's Weekend". Hate. I can handle the "Retro Lunch" during the week, but that weekend shit is more than I can handle. Don't get me wrong. I have no problems with 80's/Early 90s music. But if I wanted to hear it all the time, I would listen to an 80s station. Problem is here, there aren't a lot of stations I really want to listen to. I've got to break down and get satellite radio.

I got a lifetime subscription to Sirius when Howard Stern moved there, so pretty much the only regular radio I listen to is NPR. They seem to have pre-empted BBC Newshour this week to beg for money again, so I guess there's that.

Radio ads with siren noises or the sound of ringing cell phones in them should not be allowed...

This may not count, but I have to bitch : I had a subscription to XM Radio only to listen to their New Wave Channel ("Fred") and their playlist was amazing. Then they got bought out by Sirius who changed the playlist entirely (to include playing at least ONE New Order song an hour, possibly once every HALF hour) and, to make it worse, added in DJs—including the odious and ubiquitous "Madison" who knew NOTHING about New Wave music -- and pretty much made fun of every song she (or the computer) played. I lasted six months after the Sirius takeover before canceling the subscription. Even their 90s alternative channel (which used to be "Ethel") turned to shit, too.

I'm tired of the radio stations around here bragging about they have "more music and less commercials" yet play about 2 songs then go into about 5 minutes worth of commercials. Also, every station around here will get stuck on a certain song and play it every. single. hour. It's never a good song either. It's always the most annoying one that's available.
