Those Shane Company commercials. Ugh, they have been played to ad-nauseum for years on every single freaking radio station and the CEO, Tom Shane always insists in narrating his own commercials and he has the most gawd-awful nasal monotone. Radio commercials are bad to begin with and there are so many. They all seem to come on at the same time and as I am changing stations, commercial time, next station, commercial time, next station, commercial time. I think there are as many commercials as there are songs played. Now, as for the songs, no matter what format, the same crappy 10 songs are played over and over again. I listen to rock and on the modern rock stations, Red Hot Chili Peppers' songs are played at least 40 times daily. I am so fucking sick of RHC. I never liked that group to begin with. On classic rock, substitute RHC with The Eagles and specifically the song 'Hotel California'. Words cannot describe how much I loathe that song. Do I really need to hear that song every damn day??? Things St. Louis stations do that annoy me: 2. Classic rock stations that have to put Peter Frampton and "Sweet Home Alabama" on every hour. Yes, Peter Frampton and the song Sweet Home Alabama! I have heard PF and SHA far too many times. Ditto for the songs 'Free Bird', 'Stairway to Heaven' and that Boston song which name currently escapes me.

I just heard Lonestar's song from 2003, "My Front Porch Looking In", on the local classic country station. Either songs from seven years ago are already being considered classics or they're slowly straying from the "classic country" format. ETA: The DJ on this station I'm listening to now keeps referring to thunderstorms as "thunderbumpers" It reminds me of another DJ a few years ago that called always called them "thunderboomers".

I don't listen to the radio much anymore, but I think y'all have narrowed down all those annoying radio station habits. I always hated when stations would advertise "30 minutes of commercial-free music" or whatever, and then the DJs would talk for a large chunk of it.

"Shane Company. Located at the intersection of I-170 and Highway 40. Open Monday through Friday 'til 8, Saturday and Sunday 'til 5, or online at shaneco.com."
Yeah, they play those commercials a LOT on St. Louis radio.

The Shane Company commercials wouldn't be so bad if Tom Shane himself did not insist on narrating the commercials himself. I think he is a sadist and has to know how annoying his voice is. He has even said once one of his commercials that he has allergies. Whatever. What is really sad is that Shane Company is nation-wide.
I was really tempted to get satellite radio but after hearing some of you say how much it sucks after Sirius bought XM, I've changed my mind. I listen to talk-radio even though the pickings are very slim. Most talk radio is right wing but there are a couple of stations I do listen to on a regular basis: KGO which is based in San Francisco and Green960, which used to be Air America. Or, I just listen to NPR. Otherwise, I listen to my ipod or CD's.
I hate it when there is a new song I really like and it is overplayed on the radio and I end up being so sick of the song. Why take a good song and end up killing it?
The new rock stations play mostly whiny emo songs now or songs that appeal to 14 year olds.

Two gripes about the local station I'm listening to now:
1) You would think that Peter Gabriel was a one-hit wonder because the only song they play is "In Your Eyes". I can't remember the last time I've heard any of his other songs.
2) Tiffany (yes, that Tiffany) is performing at a nightclub tomorrow night and they had her on for the whole hour on the Time Warp Lunch as a "guest DJ" via phone. You would think that they would've played her songs throughout that hour every 15-20 minutes (or at least just "I Think We're Alone Now"), but they didn't play a single one. Missed opportunity, especially if you haven't heard her songs on the radio in years.
