They already remade Carrie a few years ago. Geez, Hollywood, there are lots of other books out there that are good and haven't been made into movies.
And to play devil's advocate - is there any movie that should be remade? Or that you would like to see remade? If so, by whom and starring whom?

I don't know what should be remade, I just know what shouldn't. Movies that have iconic status should be left alone: Carrie, Psycho, Charade. Ocean's Eleven was a good choice for a remake because it wasn't on anyone's Top 10 list for anything but the Rat Pack getting together to make a movie. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is iconic and Tim Burton didn't remake it with Charlie, he told his own story from the book and didn't make it a musical. I see those as two different movies.

There is already a poster for the new Carrie. Now that is a very striking image. But she looks like a barbie! They are going to have to do some radical revisions to the story because there is no way anybody will buy that that girl is ruthlessly picked on by her peers for being ugly and stupid.

No kidding. Pretty girls can be victimized too (I'm recalling a very good book called Reviving Ophelia that discussed such a case), but the whole point of Carrie was that she was extremely homely, overweight, pimply, and didn't appear to be quite all there.

On paper, I think it could be interesting - especially if Julianne Moore signs on - to have the story remade with a female writer/director ( Boys Don't Cry'sKimberly Pierce is directing) Then I read that the remake will "include found footage" and UGH GOD WHY. I am so sick of all these shakycam/'found footage'/etc. horror films....it doesn't add any sort of 'authenticity' or 'realness.' It just makes them cheaper to make so that studios can rake in the bucks when they have a decent opening weekend.

Re: the remake of Carrie. The book has a lot of pre-Carrie information about her mother, how she met Carrie's father, why she became a religious nujob. Little of that was included in the original; I never saw the remake. Was it mentioned in there? If not, that's something they could explore in a remake, I suppose. There's a travelling carnival and a lewd minister, if I recall (I could be mis-remembering).
