Wild. I'll never understand casting choices in Hollywood.

I'm reading a biography on Michael Douglas and in the part about getting Jack Nicholson to commit to One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, the author mentions some of the other projects Jack was weighing at the time, and one of the titles was The Bodyguard. And I thought, wait, surely they mean some other movie called The Bodyguard that was lost to development hell? But sure enough, the footnote said Jack passed on it, then the script was reworked to star Steve McQueen and Diana Ross but fell through (I did know that part already), and was finally made with Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston in 1992. Can you imagine it starring Jaaaaack? Obviously 1970s Jack and not early nineties Jack but it's wild to consider.
Topic? I wouldn't mind a remake of The Bodyguard because it's not exactly a great movie, but there's probably no way that soundtrack becomes as iconic, so there's really no point.

Wow, that is wild. Did the book say who was being considered for the Whitney Houston role when Jack was considering it?

I remember the details about McQueen and Ross and how it was tabled, but Jack?! LAWD.

Wow, that is wild. Did the book say who was being considered for the Whitney Houston role when Jack was considering it? No, it didn't sadly, but in looking up the casting history online, I see that after the McQueen-Ross incarnation didn't happen, a few years later they were going to make it with Diana Ross and Ryan O'Neal, who were dating at the time? But they broke up and the project fell through again.

Ben Affleck re-teaming with David Fincher and Gillian Flynn for a 'Strangers on a Train' remake: Ben's playing an actor who's going to bump off his wife for the AMPAS sympathy votes? I guess it's too far gone to trot out the wife and kids for photo ops at the farmers' market? At least they are putting a new twist on it instead of another shot-for-shot remake like Psycho.

Weird Science? Why? It was a piece of shit back in the day, why waste time, effort and money redoing crap?
Is there not anyone left in the industry doing anything new?
Plus, there are some things they could do back in the 80s I do not think they can do comically now... and one of them is showing a much older woman seducing teen boys.
