No original ideas left in Hollywood.

Ooh, I disagree! Splash wasn't exactly an original idea, and I think it's great to recast it like this, with a gender flip. There's also the possibility of implicitly comparing early 1980s NYC with current NYC. I like looking at tropes through a different lens.
It could still suck royally, but I like the challenge!

I'd see a movie about a male mermaid! I wish they'd update in a different coastal city though, like Miami or Seattle.

Good point about the location. Some of the "fish out of water [HAW HAW]" tropes are kind of city-dependent, so it probably couldn't be Cabot Cove or some other small town, but who the hell knows. Right now I'm just coasting on being amused by the entire thing.

it probably couldn't be Cabot Cove or some other small town I would totally watch Channing Tatum as a merman, while in the background Jessica Fletcher cruises around on her bike committing and getting away with murder.

Why do they keep remaking the same stuff over and over - Batman, Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk, Tarzan... I can think of at least two iterations of these within my lifetime, possibly more. Ugh, just stop. Yet it took them 40 years to finally make a Wonder Woman movie?

But I can't keep all the superhero/ comic book movies straight anymore.

I think 22 Jump Street is a rare sequel that was good as first. I think he's super charming and this has potential.

I really like Jillian Bell too. She was a scene stealer in 22 Jump Street. And her show Idiotsitter is dumb but funny. I think it's a good pairing. They actually had good chemistry when he guested on Idiotsitter.
