I'm more surprised that Britney wrote a 14-page letter.

Maybe the letter was ghostwritten?

Maybe it was a rambling hot mess like her Instagram posts.

The handwriting was undoubtedly that gigantic loopy script that teenage girls used to specialize in—probably had hearts dotting the I’s, too.

Maybe she was inspired by the letter that Rachel wrote to Ross. “Eighteen pages…FRONT AND BACK!”

He said it before Holy Grail, not CMAR as it’s been reported. One person made a mistake and everyone ran with that. I don’t think it was toward her but her fans. They’ve been sending death threats to him, Jessica and his mother. He should have sent the police their way. I knew she was going to remove that little apology and she did the very same day. She wasn’t serious. He needs to get a better handle on what optics mean and learn the power of words. Two decades ago and still this.

That whole situation is just a real trainwreck. I think a lot of the venom directed towards Timberlake is because he's the most public figure tied to Spears' suffering. Her parents, various shady management aren't openly available like that. And so he gets disproportionate hate for stuff that isn't even his fault, he didn't put her in a conservatorship, he didn't abuse her. But I think a lot of this is only targeted at him because he's the most visible target available.
And yeah, it's been 20 years, they were famous and screwed up teenagers, of course the relationship was messy. I don't think JT did much wrong there from what is being reported, using it for songs afterwards is shady. OTOH, Taylor Swift has made a massive career out of spinning such one-sided revenge tales and everyone reveres her for it atm (I know this can turn with a fickle public...). He also didn't know that Britney would develop mental health issues. At the time of its creation, Cry Me A River was just a typical diss song.
He is bad at the PR side of it and probably needs to strategize how to deal with this better. His position is difficult because he can't really defend himself, since Spears is not particularly mentally stable and any kind of direct answer from him can lead to her spiraling some more.

Timberlake comes off worse in this situation IMO. He didn't know when he wrote Cry Me a River that Britney had mental issues. He does know that now, so to keep baiting her and her fans is punching down.
And ugh, don't even get me started on Taylor Swift. She has definitely made an entire career out of attacking her exes and they can't defend themselves for the most part because if they did they're anti-feminist or something. As a football fan I'm also incredibly sick of how she's been shoved down our throats for the past six months so that probably contributes to my annoyance with her. I used to like Travis Kelce too! I liked that he was the anti-QAaron Rodgers and encouraged people to get vaccinated and all that. But I just so damn sick of them both. Go away already.

I can vaguely see why people would be sending threats to Jessica Biel, since they're the sort to blame his wife (who I don't think he had even met back then and who he didn't start dating till years after he broke up with Britney), but what does Justin's mother have to do with anything?
