I've never liked her voice on Glee (I prefer Kurt and Mercedes) but that Spring Awakening clip was very pretty. I like that softer, more melodic singing instead of the belting borderline screaming (like the On My Own clip).

She also let Constantine Maroulis give her a golden shower and told everyone in NYC how gross it was. This is the grossest thing I have ever read on this forum. In other words, . I love that she had to tell people that it was gross -- isn't that pretty much understood given not only the act but also the giver? She seems like a ruthless shrew. And that pretty much solidifies her longevity in Hollywood.

I know that we have inside gossip (thank you, Wol!) to her personality, but I find it troubling when a woman who becomes successful is criticized this way. I am not necessarily referring to this discussion here, but I hate it when women are desrcibed as filthy or dirty whores. Of course, I know that some women are whores, but the term and others like it have been used to such detriment against women that the emphasis on her sexual mistakes are disconcerting. I am not defending her because if she did really set out to break up relationships that is deplorable, but the men involved were also there and also made decisions. Some of the criticism directed at her seems incredibly sexist on some of the other sites.

She did not oversing or belt at all in Spring Awakening; the songs did not call for that. Check out "Whispering" and "The Guilty Ones". I thought she had a beautiful voice in SA, but I did not know she could belt like she could until Glee. Quite frankly, I remember her saying during SA that she wanted to play Elphaba, and at the time, I thought there was no way she could pull it off going by her singing in SA. Now, I think differently. Glee really allows her to do different things vocally and in my opinion, I never think she sounds strained or screechy. Now Idina on the other hand? I think she can definitely get screechy. Here's a decent rendition of On My Own. I don't know why, but I get no passion or soul from her singing. She's like Beyonce to me in that way. You can hit all the high notes, vibrato, trills, and all, but with no emotion behind it, it's meaningless. I get that, but I guess I just enjoy the pure beauty of her voice. She has a tone you just can't buy. Beyonce, on the other hand, has no beauty to her voice. Even taking out her trills and riffing, her voice is just not pretty (IMO, of course). In Lea's SA's performances, there are no trills or belty high notes-just straight singing, and you can tell her voice is just plain pretty.

That's pretty much how I feel about her voice. Mariah Carey is another example - Mariah hits all those high notes because she can (or could). Lea belts on Glee because she can. She's got a nice voice, but it does nothing to move me. Especially when you compare her to someone like Chenoweth - or as pointed out above, Kurt or Mercedes. Rachel may have a technically superior voice, but it doesn't touch me the way the other two can.

Am I the only person who thinks her voice is kind of screechy? I mean she overdoes it every-time IMO. There was one episode where she was singing and I thought it was subtle and beautiful and just mesmerizing. It turned out it was Idina Menzel. I was cooking dinner at the time and wasn't looking at the screen. I just don't get the big deal with her. I agree with you, I think she has a weird hiccup when she sings. Idina has, to me, the most gorgeous voice I've ever heard. Lea doesn't compare well when they sang together, IMO. The fact that Lea would (if rumour is correct) get the lead in Wicked over Idina I find disheartening. I think Glee is overhyped and love that "Community" which is one of the funniest shows on tv rips into them whenever they can. Well done, Community. That being said...I think more people need to pee on Lea.

So I keep seeing comparisons to Idina Menzel, but I cannot for the life of me tell their voices apart. I might get shanked for this, but they both have that bland as hell Disney Princess voice though one's voice isn't as thin. So who's who? Can someone please tell me from what point it's Idina or Lea?

Idina sings the first verse, then Lea the second. Then it seems as if Idina is singing the line, then Lea's singing the same line again.
So, when Lea sings "unafraid" in this line "Then I was young and unafraid", it sounds off to me. But, again, I don't know technical aspects of songs, just what I like or don't.

BULLSHIT. I don't buy it for a second that she was eight years old when she "discovered" that she could sing. You mean to tell me that she NEVER sang ANYTHING until she was eight?
Bitch, please.
