Whoa. I've Oscar watched for years and haven't heard of anything like that. It did miss a Golden Globe nomination but in recent years that category hasn't been a good Oscar predictor.

That's really bizarre. Maybe it's Kanye West, still pissed that Lana wouldn't perform it at his proposal to Kim? I think it should be nominated, it's a beautiful song.

The song is nice, but Lana's voice is just so flat and monotone that it ruins it for me. I thought Over the Love by Florence and the Machine was better. She probably would've made Young and Beautiful better.

My favorite song on the Gatsby soundtrack is "Kill and Run" by Sia but I don't think it featured much in the movie and wouldn't have been Oscar eligible.

Checked this out of the library and the manic beginning gave me a headache. One of my kids asked "Is this a preview for something?" It was that choppy.
I think they should've used music of the era or had modern artists redo music of the time, it really took me out of the film that they didn't.
Maybe somewhere down the line someone will edit it on Youtube with some old timey tunes.
Agree with the dislike of Maguire's voice, they should've gotten someone you could enjoy listening to with all the narration involved for the part.

I loved the use of modern music! For me it completely worked and didn't seem anachronistic at all. I read the book in high school and always thought it was a stylized story that lent itself to fantasy elements.

I loved the music too and wasn't expecting to. It really added something to the film.

I agree, I thought the music worked well. I think the point of using anachronistic music was so we'd understand the effect of the music of the times. Jazz may be old hat now, but back then it wasn't.

I liked the idea of what they were doing with the music just felt it wasn't as well executed as it could have been like in Moulin Rouge.
The whole movie got dragged down by Tobey Maguire. Someone else like JGL or even Daniel Radcliff (how's his American accent?) would've been a much better choice as they actually have some screen presence.

Yeah, choppy edits and Top 40/EDM mashups is sort of Baz Luhrmann's MO. Dude is like a bird in a sparkly bead store.
I think Daniel Radcliffe would have been a weird choice, but JGL could have worked. They needed someone who comes off a little more everyman but can also bring a bit of subtly to the part, because a lot of that role is reacting or interior struggle.
