The Invisible Man. I know it got good reviews, but I was prepared to dislike it and was proven wrong! Really good movie, with a few great twists. I watched it too. Thought I'd hate it, but I actually ended up liking the movie. It was frustrating in a good way because you were frustrated for the character.

I recently watched Top Gun for the first time. I did NOT know Goose died so congratulations to me for avoiding spoilers for a nearly forty-year-old movie. Also it was somehow even gayer than I had been led to believe. Ten outta ten. Also the sex scenes were just so...weird? And tongue-focused? Has anyone EVER watched a movie and thought "the sex scenes were good, but they'd be hotter if I could get a close up of two tongues waggling around"? Because if anyone ever has thought that, hoo boy do I have the movie for them.

I watched Dumplin' with my parents yesterday, and we all liked it. Then we watched 6 Underground which had such potential, but OMG was it ever terrible. At the end of the credits, I saw that Michael Bay directed it and my brother and I both said, "Oh, THAT explains it!"

I've never seen such loving close-ups on tongues before and it just looked stilted and strange.

The Rebecca remake on Netflix was awful. Don't waste your time unless you want to sit there and hate watch it and compare it to the masterpiece original in every shot. It made me angry how bad this movie was. The only redeeming value was Lily James's costumes. I would wear her outfits as my daily wardrobe, early 20th century wallflower is apparently my aesthetic.
Armie Hammer was truly, truly awful as Maxim. Totally miscast and he had no idea what to do with the character. Kristin Scott Thomas at least had fun with Mrs. Danvers.
There are several shots that are obvious call backs to other Hitchcock movies, namely The Birds and To Catch a Thief. There may be others that I didn't catch, but I'm not rewatching this to find them!
Also, they use the same house for Manderly that is used in the Enola Holmes movie (which was a delight). Netflix must've gotten a deal.

I'm re-reading the book of Rebecca right now, so I have to watch the movie anyway even though the consensus seems to be that it's terrible.
Much as I loved the Hitchcock version, the change to the ending was atrocious and to say that the movie lacked the subtlety of the book is a huge understatement. It really is a book that deserves a more faithful version, but it seems this one is a misfire.
AMC had a Hitchcock marathon a few days ago so I re-watched Psycho. Once you know the twist, which everybody in the world does, there's not much a point to sitting through that movie again. Ditto those "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" episodes.

I have to agree with your assessment of Psycho. By the time I saw it in college, it was so firmly a part of pop culture that of course I knew what the twists were. Aside from all the murdering and Bernard Herrmann’s score, I found it to be quite boring.

Oh, I love the Psycho score--I could kind of re-watch the movie for that alone.
And glad to know I don't have to bother with the Rebecca remake.

I had the same problem with North By Northwest. The iconic scenes are so seeped into popular culture that I was kind of like "...okay?" when I finally watched the whole thing. Which I really feel bad saying. It's one of those movies you wish you could go back in time and be one of the first audiences seeing it.

Netflix has really been missing the mark lately. I hated Enola Holmes, it sounds like Rebecca is bad, and then there's the Cuties controversy. It makes me worried about the fourth season of The Crown and the second season of Virgin River, both of which come out in November. I am looking forward to their Christmas movies though, historically they're way better than those on Hallmark or Lifetime. (IMO)
Hubs wanted to watch the Borat sequel. He turned it off after fifteen minutes, which I felt bad about. He seemed to be enjoying it but it's basically nonstop penis jokes and I can only laugh at so many of those. I told him to leave it on but I think he was embarrassed; I'm sure he'll watch it with his buddies the next time they all get together.
