Sounds like throat problems and then some kind of severe flu/cold/respiratory infection. Even more reason to quit smoking. I read some interview (sorry, no citation) where she went through a brief ultra-healthful period of no smoking or coffee, exercise, and improved diet. She said her voice sounded better in a week, but grew weary of it, especially the caffeine withdrawal. So she threw the baby out with the bathwater and went back to unhealthful ways. For God's sake, Adele, no one cares if you have that slice of cheesecake, but quit with the cigs!

Seriously. I'm one of the few non-smokers in my office, and I can't help but notice that whenever the flu and colds fly through work I am usually the one that doesn't get sick (or if I do it's nowhere near the level of the regular smokers).
And smoking is so hard on the voice. I don't get why singers like Adele or Lady Gaga would risk it. Like other body parts voices age with time, generally not for the better.

The way Adele sings is hard on the voice too. Without some better technique she's not going to be able to tour much because she won't hold up to it.

Yeah - that's the first thing I noticed about her singing. Her technique is terrible. If she doesn't have nodes already she'll probably be getting them soon.

She needs to stop smoking. Her voice is too beautiful to lose to smoking.

She needs to stop smoking. Her voice is too beautiful to lose to smoking. And start voice lessons, as stated above. Her upper notes--which aren't that high, objectively--are fraying in timbre and pitch and she's scooping to get there. Exhibit A: the refrain of "Rolling in the Deep."

I know absolutely nothing about the technicals of singing, but I think she's quite boring. Her voice is pretty, I just don't think she "brings" it.

I agree. I find her totally boring too. Her songs all sound the same anyway.

I think she has so much potential. Her voice has personality but man, she needs to grow up and stop making every single song about lost love. Blah!I know she's in her early 20's and god knows when I was that age, love was a huge part of my existence.... maybe more than I'm remembering but she could really do with mixing it up a bit. Whenever I hear a song of hers on the radio, I flip it to another station.
