I can't stand Shuffle, so go, Adele! Back when LP's were the norm, did artists have control over the order or was it based on time and perceived marketability of tracks (put the good stuff on Side A so it gets heard more)? Now I'm curious-it's bit something I ever gave thought to. Back in the days of actual LP's, it was partially influenced by how many minutes each side of the record would hold. I know the bands I listened to as a teenager (late 80s/early 90s) spent a long time working on song order on their albums. It was a whole process of trial and error that they would work on it with their A&R person. The start and the finish were important. Do you start with a little introductory track to set the mood? Do you end with something slow and emotional, or something cute? And "front loading" meant putting all the really good songs first to keep listeners (or album reviewers) hooked. Thank you- I never really wondered about it before but it was suddenly a burning question for me. I should pay more attention I guess.

I love Adele so much. I wish I liked more of her songs!
Shuffle is of the Devil. And I was totally gonna use Abbey Road as illustration. Is there a better side 1/side 2 transition than ending with I Want You (She’s So Heavy) and coming back in with Here Comes the Sun?
As a recording engineer/producer back before transitioning to the road, we agonized for DAYS about album order. I even used to try making the space between songs be in time (the first downbeat of a song would be on the one of the prior song, if you counted through the silence).
I even talked one client into opening their CD with the sound of a needle dropping, and then recorded an automatic record changer lifting the needle, dropping the next record and another needle drip which we stuck in the middle of the CD where the side change would be on vinyl.
MissP has never understood why I wouldn’t pay for her to have ad free spotify. The fact they ever defaulted to shuffled at all made them dead to me.
Get off my lawn!

She's one of those people I just don't get the appeal of. She has a nice voice but I find that she warbles and doesn't enunciate. Also, 95% of her songs sound the same - she definitely benefits from that whole blue eyed soul thing. 19 was her best album by far.

I have to find the lyrics online.

I agree with you about her singing. It's not that impressive. It's kind of grating (to me anyway).

I knew her early song Chasing pavements thought yeah I sort of like that but by no means mad about it It was her performance of Someone like you at the Brit Awards that hooked me I saw it on the night and she just held the audience, I can’t put my finger on it but it was special in that moment. I’ve watched it back and it’s not perfect but I don’t know but what ever it is about her she caught and kept my attention since then. Her Glastonbury performance a few years back did something similar too.
Her songs always confuse me first listen I’m a bit I don’t believe the hype 2 or 3 listens later and I’m singing along and loving them. Skyfall and Send my Love have been on and off earworms the couple of days if fact it’s a mash up of the two type earworm My brain hasn’t just shuffled Adele’s work it’s sampled and remixed it!

I really like her music, but haven't listened to the new album yet. I just get the feeling that she's sort of bought into her own hype. I may be completely wrong and I hope I am, but Hollywood Adele feels different to me than Vintage Store Queen Adele.

I love her voice, and she always seems a genuine hoot in interviews.
But her songs just don’t grab me. Not to be all 1970s A&R man about it, but...I don’t hear any HOOKS. Rumor Has It is as close as it gets, and that was more repetitive than hooky.
How amazing would she be if she did an album along the lines of Mandy Moore’s Coverage album?

25 had some amazing songs on it. The new album just isn't grabbing me and I gave it a few listens to see if any of the songs would grow on me. It's a shame. She has a beautiful voice and seems to have gone through a lot in the last few years, but it did not translate into album form.

Too many of her songs all start to sound the same. It seems like she believes her voice does one thing really well, so she keeps on doing it over and over.
